A wonderful horse riding experience in the snow! Truly magical! We visited mesna.no over Christmas when it was a little cold and very snowy! Our family of 4 had all ridden before but were all beginners, only the children had ever trotted - we'd never gone past walking before - but we learned to trot and gallop (we did a lot of galloping) in the space of 2 hours of riding through the most beautiful countryside. Under expert guidance of Christoffer and Camilla and on very sensible Icelandic horses we spent two hours out in the snow, galloping along roads covered in powdery snow or walking in the deep snow through pine forests. What a way for us to learn to gallop for the first time. We had a great time and it was a magical experience that will stay with us for a very long time.

If you want to spend time outside, in the nature and with animals, have fun and at the same time get to know better Norwegian culture and how Norwegian farmers live - that's a place to choose! Me and my husband had a great weekend at this place: we paprticipated in daily routines like, for example, feeding animals; we have been on a dog sledging tour, had an evening tour with snowshoes and headlights deep into the winter forest; we learned a lot about horses, how to take care of them and prepare them for the tour/ride and we have had a magical horse ride tour to the woods with fireplace and home-made food and coffee. This was the first time for me riding a horse and I will remember it for the rest of my life. Family that owns the farm are wonderful, helpful and hoispitable people. Grete and Vemund made us feel very welcome there and it was always possible to get in touch with them if we needed something. We enjoyed every minute at this place and will gladly recommend it to our friends and family! And we will definitely come back there again! So if you are visiting Norway, I would definitely recommend you to experience Myhre Gaard. It's only a 3-hour drive by car from Oslo and there are also great public transportation possibilities available.

Hjerkinn Fjellridning

We use Icelandic horses which are reliable, steady and very well trained. Our trips accommodate both beginners and experienced riders, children and adults. Because of the relatively small size of the Icelandic horse, maximum weight for riders are 95 kg. The age limit for attending a riding trip is 12 years alone and 10 years with a parent. Before we start riding, we make sure that everyone is comfortable with their horse by grooming and saddling it. A short grooming and riding lesson will be given. During the trip we divide the riders into groups based on experience in riding. If you would like, you will get the opportunity to try both ambling gait (tolt), trot and canter. You can book a day trip or stay for several days, with accomodation in the hotel. We are the only place in the world that offers musk ox safari on horseback! This trip takes place every Saturday and is for people with some experience in riding.
