Escape Rooms Durham

A real life escape game has arrived in Durham. You and your team will need to solve a series of puzzles in under an hour, can you beat the room? Great for team building, stag/hen do's or just a great way to spend an hour with friends or family!

We had great fun at Escape Rooms Durham - clues to crack codes, to release keys, to open draws, really challenging with additional clues provided by Danielle who guided us just as much as we needed and we escaped with 22 seconds to go (but there were only two of us so not bad!) Highly recommend this - a fun hour that gets you thinking!

Oriental Museum

Following Government advice, Durham University’s museums, galleries and Botanic Garden are temporarily closed. We will be using the closed period to carry out improvements at all our sites. At the Oriental Museum this will include: - completing the new Silk Roads permanent gallery, which will provide an updated introduction to the museum and its collection. - installing the special exhibition, 'Lu Xun’s Legacy in Print Making in Modern China', celebrating the impact of Lu Xun (1881-1936) arguably the most important cultural figure of twentieth century China. Stay in touch on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. From Ancient Egypt to modern China, we are the only museum in the North of England devoted entirely to the art and archaeology of the great cultures of Northern Africa and Asia. The Oriental Museum is normally open Monday - Friday, 10am - 5pm and Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays, 12pm - 5pm.

We consider ourselves extremely lucky to live near such a lovely coastline and Indeed being able to walk here during lockdown kept us sane. We are particular fans of the coast around seaham - Whether you visit noses’s point, vane tempest or seaham hall the scenery is stunning! We also love to look for sea glass too Have travelled the world and would struggle to name a more beautiful coastline Unlike other coastal areas parking is free too and the beaches are rarely crowded.

Crook Hall is a Medieval Manor house built circa 1217 and is one of the oldest inhabited houses in Durham City. Home to the Bell Family since 1995, the Medieval Hall merges into a Jacobean Manor house which in turn merges into a Georgian Town house reflecting its development over the centuries. The Hall provides a spectacular backdrop to the 5 acres of stunning gardens. Visitors from all over the world come to share in the timeless magic of Crook Hall and leave inspired by these idyllic English gardens. Afternoon Tea is served in the beautiful Georgian Drawing Room. We are open from Sunday to Wednesday and welcome visitors throughout the year. We have two modern self catering apartments available in the heart of Durham City. We are a unique, historic wedding venue providing exclusive use of a beautiful and romantic setting. Chanced upon this place via a video on Facebook and love their daily updates so decided to visit. 30 mins from the centre of Newcastle clearly signed although my sat nav was a bit off and with plenty of parking. Very welcoming staff to check you in and brief you and straight into the animals, well set out areas to visit from small petting area just after arrivals through to the paddocks with toilets and indoor spaces set in the middle and well looked after. Bought some feed at the entrance and joined in feeding goats, sheep, donkeys, llamas and of course the amazing herd of Highland Cows. Plenty of rides and activities for the smaller kids to enjoy as well and a bit of sheep racing during the session too. Staff all extremely polite friendly and engaging. In times of Covid plenty of room to move about, good organisation and signage, plenty of sanitising spots and bins. Stayed for 2 hours on my own but sure the kids would be more than happy with double that! Definitely going back when in the area again!

The Woodman Inn

THIS BUSINESS IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. This traditional-style pub serves a good selection of lagers and three real ales and has a great selection of spirits including gins and malt whiskies. With a pool table, dart board and various other games to choose from. It also has a Gold award from the national 'Best Bar None' scheme. Boasting the best pub garden in Durham City, which has been beautifully re-landscaped, along with an outside TV for sporting features etc. A vibrant, colourful, attractive and relaxing area and this is a massive attraction during the warmer months. The pub offers a 'Light Bite' snack type menu including burgers and nachos etc at very reasonable prices. Although there is no designated pub car park, it's usually possible to park on the street nearby free on a weekday evening/Sunday. This is a friendly family-run pub offering a warm welcome to all its visitors.

The Station House

Quiet community micropub in the city centre of Durham, very close to the train and bus stations. Serving excellent real ale and cider in an atmosphere promoting conversation. Welcoming owners who are passionate and knowledgeable about their products.

Reviewed By xDavidxFx - Durham, United Kingdom

I recently moved to Durham from the US and have been trying out various places to drink. My favorites tend to be old-school local pubs, but these have two drawbacks: first, the clientele tends to be a bit older and second, the beer is often not well cared-for. This place has all the advantages of such pubs* but with a younger crowd and owners who really know and care about and for their beer. They have fostered a real community of regulars who come to eat, chat, play board games, discuss books and, of course, drink beer and cider. The place is reasonably large but feels intimate; the staff are friendly and knowledgeable; the prices are reasonable; and there is a decent selection of snacks (including a vegan sausage roll sourced from nearby Bean Social, plus guests are welcome to bring in their own food). *the minor exception is that it's in an old furniture store, not one of these buildings that's been a pub since the Roman Empire or whatever. If you're looking for that kind of charm in Durham, you should try out The Victoria.
