Founded by Dutch Calvinists in 1847, the city of Holland, Michigan, is an outpost of Dutch culture and tradition in the midst of the American Midwest, home to dikes, canals and even an authentic Dutch windmill. Proud of its heritage, the city purchased 100,000 tulip bulbs from the Netherlands back in 1927, and these colorful flowers still fill the city's gardens and parks with color annually, just in time for the famous Tulip Time Festival, attended by over half a million people every year.

I took my cuckoo clock which was broken and had not been used in 16+ years to the Holland Clock Company for repairs. The owner, Dan, repaired and cleaned the clock so that it looks and works as if it were brand new. The store itself is chock-full of beautiful items made in Germany such as an amazing variety of cuckoo clocks, smokers, nutcrackers, music boxes, Christmas ornaments, Christmas pyramids, etc. I hope his shop is there for years to come because there are so many items I hope to purchase.

Cherry Republic’s newest store was opened in the spring of 2017 in beautiful downtown Holland. Located on W. 8th Street, this store is light and bright while still evoking the authentic Cherry Republic feel our ‘Citizens’ love. With over 200 cherry products straight from Northern Michigan’s orchards, we sample each and every product — from dried cherries and nuts to chocolate covered cherries, salsas, jams, and more. Complimentary wine and soda pop tasting is also offered daily, so stop by soon. (Just be sure to leave some time to check out Holland’s iconic windmills and tulip farms!)

Went to Poppin Huis for their grand reopening and mainly to allow my daughter to meet the princesses from Everafter West Michigan. I was very delighted by the store itself, very warm and welcoming. The treats (flavored popcorn, lollypops, and old fashion candy) were all very well displayed and reasonably priced as well. I purchased some popcorn and a lollypop for me and my daughter, and both were very delicious. I will definitely be returning just for the treats at the shop itself!
