April 18, 2022 Alice Mieles

Uttarakhand (English: /ˌʊtəˈrɑːkʌnd/), officially the State of Uttarakhand (Uttarākhaṇḍ Rājya), formerly known as Uttaranchal, is a state in the northern part of India. It is often referred to as the Devbhumi (literally "Land of the Gods") due to many Hindu temples and pilgrimage centres found throughout the state. Uttarakhand is known for the natural environment of the Himalayas, the Bhabhar and the Terai. On 9 November 2000, Uttarakhand became the 27th state of the Republic of India, being created from the Himalayan and adjoining northwestern districts of Uttar Pradesh. It borders Tibet to the north; the Province No. 7 of Nepal to the east; and the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh to the south and Himachal Pradesh to the west and north-west as well as Haryana on its south-western corner. The state is divided into two divisions, Garhwal and Kumaon, with a total of 13 districts. The interim capital of Uttarakhand is Dehradun, the largest city of the state, which is a railhead. The High Court of the state is located in Nainital.

Gorson Bugyal

Auli stay was like staying in heaven. Not to miss the gorson Trek from auli. it’s a fun Trek with meadows on top of the mountain. For the gorson Trek, we did the chair cable first then we did the trek. The trek is about 3 km , with gentle slopes to Trek in the open meadows , through the alpine forest , passing the cows grazing n horses grazing, passing the bells tingling around the cows neck, little ponds on the way, a little temple n finally reaching on top to the open meadows. It was like Switzerland n truly beautiful. On top , saw the clouds coming in and you feel like your walking on the clouds. Beautiful weather, cool n windy. Sometimes sunny sometimes cloudy. Glad we didn’t get the rains. Passed by mountain goats n mountain dogs. Saw vultures on top of the mountain feeding on cow carcass. Heard the loud neighs of the horses. Just a wonderful must do trek to enjoy beauty all around.

Gomukh

Reviewed By banibratam2020

I have been visiting Gomukh since 1987. I have already been there 10 times. It is a must visit place for Nature Lovers. Here Gods come down to meet you. Majestic Bhagirath 1, 2 and 3 peaks stand tall. I insist that everyone stays in Bhujbasa while on the way to Gomukh glacier the next day and again stay at Gomukh till about 5 pm, to take the photographs of sunset when the last rays of sunlight beam on Bhagirath peaks. You can stay either at GMVN bungalow or at Famous Lal Baba Ashram and both are cosy, however at Lal Baba Ashram, you get a personal touch. God bless. Regards. Gangotri Glacier

Reviewed By kaushikdas77777 - Kolkata (Calcutta), India

The river Bhagirathi originates from Gangotri glacier & considered as the origin point is called Gaumukh. The name Gaumukh means Mouth of a Cow. It is located about 19 KM from Gangotri at an altitude of 13200 ft & can be reached by trekking. Me 65 yrs & my wife 62 yrs, reached Bojbasha & boarded in GMVN rest house. On 16th morning we crossed the Bhagirathi river by hand pulling ropeway and started our trek. Most of the path was full of boulders and walking on them was a test of physical endurance. After walking about 4 km , the site of Gangotri glacier & Gaumukh came in to view. The glacier is covered with mud and stones. It was a lovely view. Then we moved towards Tapovan (14640 ft) which was another 5 km. Trek to Tapovan is very tough. There are tricky glacier sections to be crossed in addition to steep climbs. It was very difficult to walk on big boulders & in some places loose pebbles.I was simply mesmerized to see the beauty of mountains surrounding me. Mount Bhagirathi was on my left, Meru on right and mighty Shivling was in the middle. Mount Shivling can be seen from top to bottom at Tapovan. I was simply hypnotized seeing the creation of nature and was standing like a zombie for minutes. After spending more than an hour we came down to Gaumukh. I was thrilled to see the origin of Ganges from the closest proximity. Finally we came back to Bhojbasha.. Next day we left for Gangotri. This trail is rated as moderate & can be undertaken by trekkers with good state-of-health.

The Camel Rock

Reviewed By SameekshakSACHIN - New Delhi, India

The Camel Rock is an amazing structure in the shape of Camel Back which can be seen from the middle of Camel Back Road. We visited the place in the evening and it was little dark but we could manage to see the Camel Rock. Camel back road is normally used by the local people for morning and evening walk. One can reach to the camel back road through Mall road. There is one road which goes up from mall road near rope way station to Cambridge book Depot and the road which is adjacent to Cambridge book depot, goes down to Camel back road. I would recommend this place to visit.
