Bhaktivedanta Manor

In the Hertfordshire countryside just north of London, Bhaktivedanta Manor, complete with its farmlands, beautiful gardens and temple is a real sanctuary for the soul. Open all year round to visitors and students of ancient wisdom, the temple offers a great experience with tours of the shrine, gardens and compassionate farm. See the rooms of the famous Hare Krishna guru Srila Prabhupada, to whom George Harrison gifted this iconic mock Tudor mansion. Visitors may participate in inspirational talks, yoga classes, mantra meditation, vegetarian cooking classes and various retreats.

I try to visit Bhaktivedanta Manor as often as I can through out the year and especially during the Janmastahmi Festival (Krishna's Birthday) which usually falls sometime in August. This is a very tranquil place to visit, with lovely gardens, the pond, the woodland walk, the cow pen where you can purchase greens to feed the cows, and of course the magnificent temple. Such tranquil surroundings and a lovely place to just relax or start your spiritual journey. There are prayer times throughout the day so check their website for details of these if you would like to attend. There is a lovely cafe on site for refreshments, and prashad is always served too. I would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area, you will have a wonderful uplifting experience.

A traditional pub. The staff are warm and friendly . The food is outstanding for a sunday lunch . No bells and whistles just great food and a warm atmosphere . My wife and I love it and took friends there recently who were amazed by the quality . It is a pub not a restaurant. Apple crumble is £3 and main roast about £8.50 . Wine is great value and so drinkable . Get a taxi and forget about driving .Great place . James

I have lived in the area for several years and never knew this little hidden gem existed until recently . Tucked away in a quiet residential road . Beautiful laid out and maintained miniature gardens open to the public . Planted with lots of English garden favourites and with lots of benches in quiet corners to sit and enjoy the gardens , There is also a small aviary and a pond with large ornamental carp The gardens also offer a small car park to the side . A little gem tucked away and hidden in the hustle and bustle of town .

Came here with my two youngest (aged 11 and 17) and really enjoyed the walk. The sculptures were really fun and they also enjoyed the swing and the wooden xylophone. A perfect couple of hours of enjoyment and fresh air!

Visited today and decided to order the steak meal. Not only was the large mixed grill excellent but you get a pint as well. Two puddings for a fiver as well, topped off the meal. The food came really quickly and considering the pub was full this was amazing. Spoke with Darren the duty manager who was running things brilliantly. All the staff were attentive and did a great job. Well done. 10/10

The Intu Shopping Centre used to be known as the Harlequin Centre. It's located in the centre of Watford and runs alongside Watford High Street on one side and the Ring Road on the other. The Primark store has entrances from the shopping centre and the High Street so can be accessed from both sides. There is a good variety of shops in the Intu, some large destination stores like M&S and John Lewis as well as some fancy clothing shops like Superdry and Jack Wills and some smaller shops too so there is something for everyone. The only thing I find with visiting Watford is that some of the car parks are a bit pricey. Does anyone know if there is cheap parking anywhere?

What a difference a few quid and a decent landlady can do! Haven’t drunk in the pub for at least two years as my last experience wasn’t all that impressive! The new landlady has a big beautiful smile is welcoming and a breath of fresh air for this pub! We had a nibble and a few drinks as me and my girls haven’t seen each other in a good few months (like all of us during lock down) and was a truly lovely experience. The gent behind the bar was a quick and efficient when serving and made us smile and laugh a lot. Regarding cleanliness, all I can say is wow! I know it has been recently refurbished, however the level of cleanliness is to a very high standard, the landlady and gent were constantly making sure tables were cleaned as soon as customers left, and also reminding us about not going to the toilet in a group! (You know what us girls are like)! Basic food available, but was tasty and hot and there is a nice variety of gins available. I shall defiantly be spreading the word about this pub as well as my friends.
