The falls are absolutely stunning. Quiet and even when busy, there was plenty of space and opportunity for photos. The views were stunning all round. We were lucky to see Mt Fuji on the day we visited.

You can walk,up and down the pass, by the seashore, beautiful cliffs and wooded area. Also, suspension bridges, over the coast, observing Ohshima - in Japanese, means a big island - and a nice light-house that enables you to view mountain side of the area, including Mount Omuro.. Very nice and comforting to roam, looking at the ocean out there and listening to the birds.

Only an hour from Fujimiya (1570Y)you can catch s local bus- if you get the right bus timing you can get off to see the falls for 30min before catching the next bus to the lake. There is a big resort and a camp ground both of which hire bicycles for 500Y an hour. This is ample time to take a leisurely ride the 3.3km around the lake whilst viewing Mt Fuji the whole way. The lake is popular with locals fishing which is interesting to see. This is s beautiful lake and an ideal way to experience Mt Fuji with our kids.

Shirahama Beach

Reviewed By christinaf695 - Yokohama, Japan

We visited this beach off season in April, when it was around 21 degrees and too cold to swim in. Nevertheless, we had a nice walk along the beach and enjoyed a picnic there, watching the surfers and enjoying the quiet. The water is very clear and the scenery beautiful. There is also an impressive temple nearby (on the side of the torii gate) that you can visit. I didn't think that the beach was dirty - yes, there were a few bits of plastic waste in the sand, but it didn't strike me as 'a lot' of trash. Even if the beach is cleaned every day, sadly, some trash will be carried to the beach from the ocean every day due to our over-consumption and use of plastic... It's also very convenient that you can quickly reach the beach by bus from Izukyu-Shimoda station or Shimoda marina. Just opposite, there is a Family Mart and a few cafes and restaurants.

Satta-toge Pass

Reviewed By Tokugawa_Ieyasu - Fujieda, Japan

The Satta-toge Pass should have been one of the roughest spot on the Tokai-do in the past. We can see many cyclists and hikers walking along the ancient road, but it looks very tough. At the peak of the Satta-toge, the great view of the Mt. Fuji and Suruga Gulf would be brought to you if the weather could be fine.

Besides a replica of the Monet House and the garden from the painting 'Water lillies' there are several other areas in this garden. There is a tree from the Jurassic period and many varieties of unique citrus and other fruits and several examples of architecture from other countries. The view of lake hamanako from the viewing platform is incredible.
