Cabo Espichel

Reviewed By MaryleneS - Maputo, Mozambique

The Cabo Espichel may be a bit out of the way and definitely requires a car, but it is worth the effort: in addition to the beautiful landscape, especially during the sunset, it offers a combination of attractions: an historical lighthouse, a beautiful Sanctuary and Hermitage, containing footprints of sauropod dinosaurs and a water house with the ruin of an aqueduct to was bringing the water to the premises. It is said that part of the site is under restauration to house a hotel.

One of the most beautiful beaches that I’ve visited in Europe. I felt like I’ve landed in one of the Mediterranean islands when I got to this beach. You need to drive to one of the recommended places on google maps and then walk about 1km and then walk down cliff between the vegetation that finished at this beautiful sandy beach.

Praia da Foz Beach has a sand of reasonable size, located in a cove. At north there's a promontory of remarkable height. Further south the beach is bounded by a rocky platform with a flat top, nearly the same size of the sandy area. Sea waters can be rough and having tricky currents. The beach is mainly attended by fishermen. Access is beside the north side of the rocky slab.
