Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

Reviewed By PNEPete - Leyland, United Kingdom

Visited as part of a tour from cruise ship, It was absolutely stunning, the architecture, chandeliers, carpet, etc etc. Well worth a visit although for non muslims you cannot visit during prayer times. Ladies must be appropriately dressed, with hair/head covered, shoulders and arms to the handsand legs covered to the feet. Men generally wear normal casual wear, shoes must be removed before entering the Mosque rooms. Definitely a must to visit just to admire the sheer splendour inside and out.

Jebel Shams

At just over 2000 meter. Jebel Shams Resort is ideally situated a few minutes walk from the famous "Grand Canyon of Oman" and a visit to us on Oman's highest Mountain at approximately 3000 Meter is great place from which to enjoy the mountain. A warm welcome is ready for all those weary adventurers who visit it. Enjoy a perfect starry night sky outside one of our Arabic Rents or Chalets and enjoy a warming campfire at night. During the day there are lots of lovely walks and treks to suit all levels of fitness. For those who want to just relax then there is a swimming pool and lovely views of the surrounding stunning mountain vista.

Wadi Ghul - Oman's Grand Canyon

Reviewed By I8925AJandrewa - Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

We drove to Jebel Shams for a couple of days of walking in the mountains. We didn't do what most people seem to come here to do. We had decided in advance that the Balcony Walk probably wasn't for us - it looked a bit too busy and a bit too scary in places. We spent the first day following the W4 walk along the top of the canyon. It's a steady walk requiring only a moderate level of fitness. We didn't see another walker on the W4 route all day, so I would recommend it to anyone who wants a bit of peace and quiet. The views are breathtaking and there are plenty of great spots to sit and have lunch. On the second day, we picked up a trail behind one of the resorts in Jebel Shams, walked it for a while before going off piste to explore the nearby gullies. It was a bit more strenuous with some slow going on the rocky descents, but still accessible to most.

It's a really unique and beautiful pool formationq in a gorge with turquoise water. You have to walk 2 - 3 meters through a muddy path so don't bring your best shoes. The pools where you can swim are wonderful. A must if you are in Oman!

A quiet spot, 20KM off the main road, this picnic location has some breathtaking views. There's a simple restaurant, several park benches, and toilets. It's possible to walk over the top of the dam for a part of the distance and get views of the valleys below. Excellent choice for a weekend lunch picnic.
