Lake Samsonvale

Reviewed By kpiddy - Brisbane, Australia

Lake Samsonvale is roughly a forty five minute drive North of Brisbane City, it is a perfect place to go to get away from suburbia and enjoy a lakeside walk, picnic, barbeque, fish (with a permit) and in certain sections of the lake paddle craft is allowed. No swimming is permitted. Vehicle access to the lake is best via Forgan Road with car parking available at Forgan Cove, Forgan Park and Bullocky Rest. On the afternoon of our visit we parked at Bullocky Rest and enjoyed the stunning lake views with a cuppa before heading out along the trail to Forgan Cove and back. A small section of the trail follows the road from Forgan Park to the intersection of Gorgons Crossing Road. Only glimpses of the lake could be seen along the trail, which was disappointing, I observed the occassional wooden plank for seating along the track, bring water and wear a hat to enjoy this neighbourhood of Moreton Bay Shire.

A2submarine Replica

Reviewed By thewanderingslaters - Perth, Australia

Learnt a lot about submarines and Australia's part in the war. Didn't realise they were so old. Not sure when I thought they came about but it wasn't so early in the 1900's. There is parking and seats here as well as roses

Bullocky Rest

Reviewed By kpiddy - Brisbane, Australia

Situated on the south-eastern bank of Lake Samsonvale in Moreton Bay Shire is the large picturesque park known as Bullocky Rest, it was a delightful place to discover on our recent afternoon drive in Greater Brisbane. Bullocky Rest is located on Forgan Road, there was plenty of parking scattered throughout the park, a small childrens playground, covered and uncovered picnic tables with bench chairs in the shade of the trees, barbeque and toilet facilites. From the picnic grounds we walked west towards Forgan Park, along the road for a short way to the start of a nature trail through the bush which had glimpses of the lake to Forgan Cove and back.

Bee Gees Way

There is a bronze statue of the Bee Gees from when they were boys growing up in Redcliffe. The statue marks the start of Bee Gees Way, a walkway dotted with photos, anecdotes and other items donated by Barry Gibb. It was opened by Barry on 14 February 2013.

This is so well put together and a great tribute to these Aussie / Queensland Boys, and so interesting to take time and just walk along and listen and read and the memories come flooding back.

Redcliffe Museum

Celebrate the evolution of Redcliffe Peninsula's character, identity and discover its significance in Australian history. Reminisce about the heyday of seaside holidays and marvel at the vision and hard work needed to make the peninsula what it is today. The museum features: - films about the early days of the Redcliffe peninsula - a celebration of holidays by the seaside - treasured photographs showing Redcliffe years ago and now - memory boxes to rummage through and uncover items and stories from the past - the Imaginarium - a fun, intergenerational space to play - a diverse programme of events, exhibitions and workshops for adults and children.

This light, bright museum with friendly, helpful staff is well worth a visit if you are interested in the history of the Redcliffe Peninsula. Well set out with enlightening explanations. I was very interested in the section explaining the Aboriginal history of the area.

With a group of our social club members we truly enjoyed our visit to Bribie Island Seaside Museum. The docuumentaries were very well written - actually read heaps because of the great writing style. Well laid out, heaps of history (even a replica of Matthew Flinders Black Cat :-) the Seaside Museum showcases Bribie history in modern surroundings and lovely welcome by people who worked there. Thanks you
