Staff went out of their way to assure us a pleasant lunch. As soon as our waitress realized we spoke English we were provided with an English menu. This restaurant is in an old Inn dated 1566, just beautiful. The food was excellent, my husband still talking about it. This was one of the nicest lunches we had while visiting Denmark. Vi takker for den venlige anmeldelse. og er glade for den skulderklap.

My wife and I celebrated our recent wedding anniversary with a 'gourmet stay' at Fakkelgaarden. When we arived there was a complimentary bottle of champagne waiting. The champagne combined with the panoramic view over 'Flensborg Fjord' from our room while we enjoyed it was a perfect introduction to dinner. The very nice 4 course dinner was served in the round tower. The waiters were very attentive and took their time to explain about the food and the wine. The normal priceses may be a little high, but if you look around you can find good discounts.

This restaurant is actually located within the Hotel Europa. As guests staying in the hotel, we decided to dine here, as reviews from others on other websites were positive. We're so glad we did.Though the dinner menu is compact, the variety was broad. My wife normally has limited options on menus, was actually able to select from various offerings, and the kitchen was additionally accommodating.Bread service was immediate as we ordered our wine.We both ordered the Turbot, served in a light cream sauce with peas and ham (bacon?) for seasoning. My wife's dish did not have the ham, and easily the sauce on the side. The texture and flavor of the fish was excellent. It came with a side of roasted new potatoes. We so enjoyed the peas in our fish dish, we ordered a side dish of just the sweet peas, served al dente. We quickly devoured this too.One dessert to share...a chocolate cake, dusted w cocoa with a 23 karat gold leaf, served with a peach/mango ice cream. Also delicious.Camilla, our server was great...very professional, friendly and helpful.Dear FlaviatorThank you once again for sending us such a fine feedback. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and the dinner in our restaurantWe are looking forward to welcome you again.

Kudos to the staff member who spotted us pondering and irresolutely weighing our meal options in the centre of Aabenraa and rushed to talk us into sitting at Storm Cafe. She managed that nicely, but huge minus for not cleaning the table when we chose one - we did that ourselves. Otherwise, it is a typical Danish cafe in a small town, offering outdoor sitting and view to small town streets. The food was ok and ample, prices regular.

Fakkelgaarden is a historic place with a great atmosphere. You feel welcome from the first touch points with the staff, which are highly skilled and professional. The restaurant is on gourmet level and defiantly in top 10 in Denmark. Also compared to northern Germany Fakkelgaarden is one of the most visits. The kitchen varies the menu due to the saison and the are experienced in getting the absolute maximum out of the raw materials. Every dish gets explained in front of you table on both Danish, German and English. Most visit - you mouth/stomach won't regret.

The restaurant is part of Hotel Knapp, beautifully situated in the middle of the forest next to a converted water mill. The dining rooms have a lot of history attached, there being the Danish and the German salon, both with historical photos and paintings relating the Danish and German royal families. There is a veranda outside with a view to the lake, where you can enjoy a glass before dinner. We had a three course dinner and opted for the wine menu. The dinner was very tasty and well-presented. Next time I would, however, choose wine from the wine list as we found that the wine menu included the house wine.

Adding to my older Review some more things you might find useful:The menu is on the Website and changes daily due to what is on stock. Their kitchen is part of the experience with a drink to start and you can see them working and preparing the dishes. No deep frozen Food at all (no place to stock it) and what is bought on a day is used on that day for the menuReservations required due to the System.Fully worth the small detour from the main Highway.
