When we arrived at the room we had booked for 2 people following was evident: 1. The toilet hadn't been cleaned properly. It was still dirty. 2. There was no hand soap at the sink (but for some reason shoe cream?) 3. They only provided 1 towel in total (no hand towels, no towel for second guest) 4. The Breakfast starts at 7am instead of 6:30 am as indicated online. 5. There was some strange electrical noise coming from the ceiling all night

Stay away

Reviewed By JM-23-18

I made a booking for two rooms one month in advance. The reservation happened to coincide with a local sports event. The receptionist and manager did not honor the reservations, and were openly peddling my two rooms to the highest bidder. Initially they offered to provide a “better” room at a different location then it transpired that it was just another lie to get rid of me and finally they asked me to cancel my reservation and find another place to stay. They are cheaters and liers. Be aware : just find another place and avoid being left stranded with no place to stay.

good location and amenities, however a bit pricey, and room had some issues

Reviewed By Wikiflights

The situated in a great area with several restaurants and coffee shops within a few blocks. The rooftop terrace is great with several seating areas and both east and west views of the city. It is not a 360 view as there are some taller buildings immediately around the hotel. Our room was the executive guest suite with a private terrace. It’s the most expensive room available. Looking back, I would not have picked this room. The “terrace” is spacious and well furnished, And you can probably entertain up to 5-6 people on it. However, the terrace does not have a view. Instead it is flanked by 3 12 foot walls, with neighboring property’s looking down on you from above. The terrace would probably be more useful if you intend on staying with 5+ people. But for a couple (like us), a room with a balcony (and a view) would be much more practical. We stayed there 2 nights and did not us the Terrance one time. On the other hand a modest balcony, even 1/4 the size of the terrace, would have gotten daily use. While the rooftop terrace is nice, sometimes you just don’t want to leave the room and want to experience some fresh air without putting on additional clothing or footwear. The room was very clean and the mattress comfortable. The pillows, however were not comfortable. They were paper thin. I had to toss the pillow around about 20 times throughout the night. I tried using two pillows, but using the pillows stacked was uncomfortable. I think I read in another review that the hotel will provide different pillows upon request. But once you are settled in your room you don’t really want to bother the hotel staff, especially since there is not a person manned there at all hours. On top of that by time you go to sleep and discover the issue it may be well into the night and the last thing you want to do is wake up someone up at midnight to bring pillows to your room. If there are different pillow options, they should already be in the room when you arrive, either on the bed or in a closet. One thing not disclosed was the strong smell of sewage from the bathroom. Whenever you “activate” water, you get a smell of sewerage. That means when you turn the shower on, you smell it more, when you flush the toilet, you smell it more. It got the point that we had to make sure the bathroom door was shut at all times since the bathroom is immediately adjacent to the master bedroom and we didn’t want the smell leaking into the bedroom. I am not going to dock any points for this because I know the issue is common of many properties in Mexico. However i think it should be disclosed as others may be more sensitive to smells and this could be a deal breaker. Once you arrive at a property and discover something like this its too late and inconvenient to change plans. The main area of Condesa where all the bars and nightlife is, is about a 15 minute walk north west from the property. There are however some bakeries, coffee shops bars and restaurants within 5 minutes of the hotel. Mario and his staff were very attentive during the entire stay. While there is a not a person manned at the front desk at all times, it was relatively easy to get in touch with someone when needed. It was easy to get everywhere in general it took about 5 minutes to haul an Uber from the hotel’s location. The hotel arranged for us to get COVID tests prior to departure. Going through the hotel, the cost was $55 USD per person. It looked like similar testing could get got in the city for about $20 USD, but we did not explore those options since we were on a schedule. Overall I would give the hotel 4 out of 5. Unfortunately the pictures you find online are lacking and its difficult to tell how the room is until you get there. However the staff exceeded expectations.

This City Express is perfect for an overnight business trip. The rooms are small but new and clean. The water pressure is good, and I was able to park on the street in front of the hotel for free. The doors are thin so there is a fair amount of noise from the hall and elevator. Good coffee and free breakfast.

Cold as hell - no heating at all!!

Reviewed By Dragus72

We had a reservation to a different hotel (same hotel chain) and when we got there they told us that the hotel is full and they got us a different hotel - great Royal Colonial! So, I can resume it one word - cold as hell! There is no heating and if you ask the reception for a radiator they just tell you there is none. You need at a least a sweater in the room and a jacket if you want have the poor breakfast in the lobby! No kidding! Luckily it was a two-night stay otherwise we would have left immediately. Positive: great location, nice staff but untolerable to bear cold in a hotel room. Just avoid it, at least in winter!

Upon checkout I was told that the manager would be in touch with me with some form of compensation but that never happened.

Best location in CDMX

Reviewed By Medea7

Quirky but lovely small hotel in a wonderful part of CDMX. Owned and designed by an architect/interior designer couple with great sense of style. Very helpful staff. Our junior suite included a dressing room as large as some hotel rooms. Lots of stairs, but interesting street view from room, with very little street noise. Lots of lounge areas and access to a full kitchen. Very appealing bars and restaurant neighboring. Large and comfortable room. Definitely recommend for couples or singles.
