Mount Auburn Cemetery was founded in 1831 as America's first landscaped cemetery. A National Historic Landmark, its renowned landscape inspired the creation of the nation's public parks. Mount Auburn was designated an Important Bird Area by the Massachusetts Audubon Society, reinforcing its status as a significant wildlife sanctuary. Still an active burial place, Mount Auburn Cemetery provides comfort and solace to countless families. The Friends of Mount Auburn Cemetery was established in 1986 to assist in the conservation of the Cemetery's natural beauty and to promote the appreciation of its cultural, historic, and natural resources. Over 100 public programs are offered annually by the Friends to educate, enrich, and inspire the community. The Friends seeks financial support for education and interpretive programs and materials for the public, specific cultural projects, and operational support for horticultural rejuvenation and the preservation of the historic monuments, structures, and archival artifacts and records.
EVERYONE should visit Mt. Auburn Cemetery. It's free, beautiful, and interesting - ideal for friends on a walk (that was us!), families exploring, couples spending time together, or anyone visiting the area for the first time. Definitely take some time to go for a long walk and explore winding paths, because this cemetery is much bigger than it looks from the outside. If you drive in, there are clear places to park at the beginning of the cemetery, or you can park the car on the side of the road where fewer cars go by. There's a small area up by the tower that has an incredible view of Boston. We brought food from Sofra cafe (check it out!) and had a picnic right there. Perfection.

One of New England's most scenic graveyards, it affords a view of Old Marblehead, the harbor, and the sea. It was established in 1638 at the site of Marblehead’s first meeting house and is the burial site of some 600 Revolutionary soldiers, most in unmarked graves.
Seeing the Names and dates on the gravestones chronicling families history, then seeing the same names on houses as you strolled through the narrow streets was fascinating. A fascinating experience

Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford Connecticut. Resting place to famous people such as: Samuel Colt, Inventor of the Colt Revolver, Katherine Hepburn, Actress, Katherine Houghton Hepburn, president of the suffragette association in Connecticut, Isabella Beecher Hooker, social activist and sister to Harriet Beecher Stowe, John P. Morgan, Financier, Horace Wells, discoverer of anesthesia and who had a tragic death......and many more. Always a slow and pondering moment to these ones who made some impact in our history.

It was interesting to see all the old head stones and there was this really cool castle looking structure. There's also a nice pond in the middle and a Korea Memorial.

Those families whose loved ones are interred at the Massachusetts National Cemetery are blessed to have the diligent and faithful workers - office staff, family relations, and the groundskeepers, who take care of this sacred spot. If you are considering this cemetery for your loved one, please note that the time allotted for committal services is fairly brief, so you really ought to have a funeral/memorial service prior to coming here. The staff are professional but friendly and are focused on meeting the needs of those who are grieving.

Saint Columba's is home to a spiritually engaged and socially diverse group of people, as well as an open house for all those who seek a closer relationship with God. It is also a wonderfully historic Chapel with gorgeous grounds and remarkable stained glass windows.
