We stopped in Fougeres as a mid point between Cherbourg and Carnac and it was an ideal spot. We parked in the town centre and walked from the town gardens, which are beautiful, to the castle. The walk was gorgeous and was like walking into a fairytale. The castle itself was fantastic with a huge water wheel and complete castle ramparts. We walked along the ramparts and the kids loved this. The views from the castle ramparts were amazing and the kids loved being able to explore the castle grounds with all its nooks and crannys. There was a series of keyboxes with questions for the children to answer around the castle. There were AV displays and lots to see. A family ticket for 5 of us was €22, which is amazing value for money.

A new site to visit, never opened to the public. 12 Rooms entierly furnished, stables, chapel, lord and domestics rooms. Classified monument and gardens with a tea room and a shop. Private fishing pond and walking tracks. Exhibition and concert all year round.
Warm welcome, bags of parking and brilliant explanatory cards in every room which enable you to visit at your own speed. The rooms have been very carefully furnished to create the right type of look for the period. The proprietor was evident on site, appeared to be very 'hands on' and empathetic to the needs of their visitors. The café was open and served excellent tea and also local ice cream. I thought the way they linked Downton Abbey to the staff accommodation on their second floor was innovative. They even welcomed visitors to that part of the chateau with the Downton Abbey theme music. Whilst I have some suggestions for future improvements I think they have already done a fantastic job considering that the chateau has only been open to the public for such a short time, Re. future suggestions (1) improve the signage from their nearby town (2) copy the latest policy of the National Trust in the UK and allow and actively encourage people to take photos of the interior - (without flash) - to enable visitors to post images on their social media to publicise / market the chateau at no cost to the ownership
