The Best Hostal Experience in Puerto Escondido

Reviewed By Kevin M

Stayed here 12 times over 10 years, here's why it's the best in a town that's filled with cool places to stay: 1. Awesome Owner She opened it 20 years ago for the joy and it reflects that with a warm, colorful, upbeat look and that hosts all, from families to partyers 2.  Best Balance In front of beautiful playa Carazalio, beginner/intermediate surf beach, yet cost efficient.  Everything within 30 min walk or less: main strip & beach / in town to local markets and restaurants / airport and bus station. & a short caravan ride to la Punta, best intermediate beach. Clean yet comfy.  Professional yet chill.  Amazing pool and variety of rooms from camping to private. 3.  The Bar The entrance is open and mellow with a variety of spots to chill solo or in a group.  One of the only places in the neighborhood open late every night it's popular with neighbor businesses,  locals and travelers.  Very strong "you're among friends" feel. Pull up a stool any given night after 10pm and you are likely to have a great conversation with a variety of folk.  Be warned though you just might fall in love with a beautiful stranger and not want to leave.  Keeps me coming back.

Best hostel experience of my life

Reviewed By Amanda A

I adored my time here. Although there are cabins for rental, I stayed at the hostel: Bostel Rancho Viejo. I was traveling alone through Oaxaca and I have stayed at over 100 hostels in my life. I have to say this was the most incredible stay I've had at a hostel. Firstly, it is the most beautiful hostel I've ever stayed in. The house is stunning with beautiful indoor and outdoor areas, a large kitchen, a huge table where we all ate dinner together each night, and a fireplace where we gathered around the fire afterward. I stayed in a bunk with several other people, and while it was cold, they provided lots of blankets to keep us all cozy. The house looks more like something out of Architectural Digest than a hostel, it's cleaned daily and it is a great place to relax. I spent the days hiking with people I met at the hostel and lying in the grass outside the hostel reading. In the evenings, everyone gathered to cook together and eat and share about their day. It felt more like a group of friends living together in a house than a hostel. The structure of the house makes it so easy to meet people and I made friends there with people I continued to travel Oaxaca with afterward and which I'm sure will last a lifetime. Very grateful for this place set in the beautiful mountains. I hope to return soon!

Great value for money, excellent location, down a dirt road, but short walk to the beach. Customer service was excellent. Mel looked after me, even for my 7 pm arrival time. Antonio was also super helpful with local information and making me feel settled in.

The Best Little Adventure

Reviewed By sashoo2014

Yiimtii Eco Retreat is a very beautiful and thoughtfully designed place. Thins were simple but felt luxurious, incredible views and a total sense of privacy, with warm moments and connections with the host and family. I loved learning about their commitment to sustainability and their community, it was inspiring for me. Getting to the beach is a hike, literally, and this felt great for me and my partner, but I can see how it might be a challenge to some. The water wasn't calm when we were there, but it was really fun to splash in the white water and remarkably beautiful and peaceful regardless. I'm so glad we found this little gem, it was definitely one of our main highlights during our stay in Oaxaca and we continue to reminisce and tell our friends about it a whole year later. If you are looking for a beautiful and genuine way to connect with the Oaxaca coastline and some wonderful people, off the beaten path, than this is the place for you!

Only ''slept'' there one night, but felt like home, so even if I had to move hostel, was coming back to chill with friends and owners! One word to describe the place : CHILL. The life just stop and slowdown there. Beach in front, only sand to walk on, hammock to sleep in, few good restaurants to get to from the main/street entrance. You will meet people from all around the world, and from the moment you walk in, you will just feel you know them already. Deeply recommending and need to advise you, your short stay will transform to a longer one! Thank you to everyone working there, and hope to see you around! Valery from MTL.

Off season was amazing.

Reviewed By stephanie s

We went during the off season (in late January) and it was amazing. So quiet, affordable, and the beach was stunning. It was about a 10 minute walk to the beach and we saw almost no one on the entire stretch of the beach. There is no a/c, but there are fans that keep you cool at night and you can hang out in the hammocks out front during the day. We had breakfast there, it was good. Because it was off season, we ended up with pizza from a neighbor for dinner b.c. we didn't understand that the kitchen had closed by 6pm. The pizza was good.

Tranquility

We had been staying in Oaxaca City, and coming here was a very welcome respite from all the noise and crowds of the city. Our cabin was perfect, perched up high with a wonderful view of tall pines. It was so peaceful to just sit on the porch and read and listen to the wind. The cabin had plentiful very hot water, and a fireplace. Someone came each evening to light a fire, and left us plenty of wood for the rest of the night. They have an on-site restaurant, and drinking water and snacks in the reception area. A real bonus during covid is that everyone wore masks, indoors and out.

It felt like home

Reviewed By DanielaL1016

I did a yoga and meditation retreat that took place at Finca Margaritas. It was the perfect location to unwind and re-connect with myself. We learned a lot about Oaxacan and Mexican culture, did a hike to one of the waterfalls and had a beautiful temazcal experience. Adriana, Cole and their family are some of the kindest people I have ever met, it felt like family. They taught us a lot about coffee and the history of Pluma Hidalgo. I have a whole new appreciation for the work and love they put into making their delicious and flavorful coffee. It was a very personal and authentic experience. The food was out of this world, the most delicious regional recipes reinvented in a vegetarian way that was super nourishing. Adriana is an amazing cook, she has a natural talent for combining different flavors. Some of the best vegetarian food I ever ate, still dreaming about it to this day ;-)
