You definitely need a vehicle with high clearance or 4 wheel drive. It was an interesting ride getting to our destination but once there it was breathtaking, amazing, and just inspiring. All this beauty created by wind, water, and time.

Coyote Canyon (and the road leading to it) is a hidden gem of #SuperBloom. My husband and I took our dog (a large breed) on our Super Bloom Trip in the 3rd weekend of March 2019. It was far better than Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Too many people, too many dogs and not enough wildflowers to boot. You will find gorgeous Super Bloom by the long stretch of road to Coyote Canyon entrance area. Each field seemed to have different types of wildflowers and no poppies. I found it was interesting. They were stunning regardless Once you enter Coyote Canyon on drive into the dirt road you are going to see another sets of wildflowers and cactus blooms. Be careful when you try to get close to the flower patches. There were a few balls of cactus rolling about. I got one of those stuck on the seam of my boot (I know! I thought I was protected.????) I carefully try to remove it by hand. Bad move. I got my finger tip stung bad. That little thorny thing was evil! Well, all that is now a good memory. Happy trail! It was loads of fun!!

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

The largest state park in California is home to amazing flowers and plants which bloom in the early spring.

This is a wonderful campground nestled next to the mountains with a half mile trail to the visitor center and a 3 mile round trip trail up the canyon on the Borrego Palm Canyon trail to the water falls and Bighorn Sheep! This desert really grows on you with fauna and flora all around and scheduled naturalist walks and talks. Jackrabbits, roadrunners and Bighorn sheep if you can find them. This is a great back to nature experience. If you go in February or March after a good season of precipitation you may see the super bloom of desert flowers. A sight to behold!

My husband and I enjoyed a 7 mile hike just past Maiden Hair Falls and back. The trail starts slow and easy then increases in difficulty as you head up into the canyon. The last mile or so requires climbing up and down some large and small boulders. One has to "follow one's nose" as there are no trail markers. Take water and snacks. I would recommend a hat, sunglasses, and hiking boots. We are in our late 60's and reasonably fit. We had no problems. At whatever age, a moderate degree of fitness is required to make it to (and past the falls). There is plenty of parking and two vault toilets at the site. No fees.

Wow open during the virus. Nice bathrooms and very helpful staff. Entry in back with parking. Look around and asked questions. Found out why sculptures were blocked off entry from the highway. It seems that the current virus warnings by the Governor states that these types of exhibits must be cleaned constantly. This means that they are not available to most people by driving directly in the unpaved desert (car trails) Sculptures in front and in rear parking area to include other information. Leave a donation to help these great folks.

you can find trail head by entering "slot canyon" into google...little hard to find. a short drive off road easily manageable by 2 wheel passenger cars... You can either do the short slot canyon hike 1 mile round trip (.5 in and .5 out) or go .5 in and then continue out straight to another trail that leads to a ridge line trail back to the parking lot which makes it approximately a 2 mile hike. We did the later...Fun

Perfect Fall day for a hike up to the palms. Hiking thru the sand and over rocks plus a creek crossing with running water was great to see. Towards the top you hike among the boulders to reach the palms. Take water to stay dehydrated. Was 60's in December and partly sunny. Had a picnic after our 2 hour hike. There are 2 open air flash toilets below the trail.
