We come out to Borrego Springs every spring for the flowers (none this year) and usually eat once at the Red Ocotillo once. This year they seemed better than ever. We had fried chicken, spaghetti and meatballs and meatloaf. All were wonderful (and large portions). The meatloaf was unusual in that instead of a typical red sauce, it had a tomatillo sauce that was delicious. We took food home so didn't try the desserts. Definitely recommended!

We had walked up palm canyon in 34c heat and were desperate for a refreshing ice cream as a reward. This place was a calm oasis. A friendly quaint little ice cream and fudge shop with a real personal touch from the owner - ask about the kissing hummingbird photo. The owner was lovely with our 5 year old son, engaging him with stories and they have a lovely locals feel with others just popping in for their daily ice cream fix and joining us in the conversation.

We had coffee, ice creams and a date shake (really yummy and big). We were only here for one day, but would definitely be back otherwise.

Carmelita's Mexican Grill

Reviewed By spiderycrabman - High Wycombe, United Kingdom

We arrived about 6:30pm on Sunday evening and the place was very busy, but we got seated straight away. Service was prompt and attentive. Food was standard Mexican fare, nothing special, but tasty all the same. We felt we were rushed out once we had our meal, as other patrons were waiting. Which I guess is only to be expected! Worth a visit.

This is mostly known for pizza from what I can determine and our group would agree with that assessment. We ordered the Mediterranean small plates and thought all were very good. All in our party liked their food and most did get the pizza. The service was great and they are open later than most places.

All in our party chose from the 3 course dinner, plus wine and desert.

The "Sesame-garlic grilled pork tenderloin" was excellent as were the carrots but the "Half Cornish game hen" was, sadly, way over cooked and quite dry.

This fate befalls many poultry dishes due to the fears of contamination from under cooked meat. It takes a fine sense to get it right. Another common cause for this can be the use of frozen birds.

The meals were well presented and the service was good. The bottle of medium priced wine was more than the cost for two dinners but was of decent quality.
Over all, it was a very fine meal.

The Butterfield Dining Room

Reviewed By Bruce M - Carlsbad, California

Casa del Zorro has two restaurants, including the more formal Butterfield and the casual Cantina. Specials are offered Monday through Wednesday nights at the Cantina. Both have excellent service and are in the traditionally decorated main building. Both have tables with plenty of space around them to give your group a bit of privacy.

Main dishes are traditional (i.e. from the 50s) and lighter faire predictable (e.g. steaks, chops, burgers, fish and chips, salads, soups...). Prices for the main dishes are in the thirties.

We enjoyed our two dinners and liked our servers. For a resort, the value is good. We compared the menus of town restaurants, and none drew us away from Casa del Zorro.

Rams Hill

Reviewed By paulieNYC - New York City, New York

We ate twice at the Rams Hill restaurant, once for dinner on 2/12 and then for lunch on 2/14/18. Dinner was good all around (service, food, ambience) if a bit pricey for what we got. Lunch, on the other hand, was quite disappointing. There was no host/hostess to seat us (with a reservation) so the very friendly and accommodating bartender took over and ever got our drinks for us. After that, we waited approximately 30 minutes before the server took our order - after I had to call her over. I ordered a hamburger but wasn't asked how I would like it cooked. We received our orders - but there was no cutlery at the table (we had to ask a bus boy for them). The check arrived before we could ask for dessert or coffee. After charging the bill to my CC, the server returns with the receipt and a "here's the pen" comment and walks away. Yes, the scenery in the daytime is very pleasant but the wait staff isn't.
