When we booked it was because we needed a dog friendly restaurant a den found this on a websiteLittle did we know we know we were in for a treat- one of the best meals we had in Portsmouth The place is central in Southsea and ticks a lot of boxesTastefully refurbished townhouse, hipsters in front of and people who know what they are doing behind the bar for exampleSome of their creative takes on standards like the Enzo martini on an espresso martini really work which is not always the caseService was lovely but can easily be confused and lost a bit of focus towards the end of the evening (some mixed up plates) and when we really needed a cab and the deserts needed to roll out- but they were cheerful and friendly ( and nice to sister in laws dog)What really stood out was some of the plates which were at a fine dining level from a decorative and creative standard as well as taste wise Starters we triedChicken with crispy skin, cornbread et al 8/10Tempura prawns 10/10Monkfish miso and scallop fudge the most creative one could perhaps benefit from rethinking a bit the components were excellent but not so well sitting together still7/10Pork 8/10MainsLamb Shanks excellent difficult to those better 10/10Ribeye perfectly medium rare one of the best came without mushrooms and pepper sauce as advertised perhaps less was more here 10/10Lobster claw in seawater again the seafood dish the most creative one this one worked better 8/10Corn fed chicken breast did not try but sister in law is not normally easy to please and she was...The desserts we had to eat a bit in a rush but they appeared creative and the white chocolate mousse was good if not great 5/10Accompanying wines ( by glass) were quaffable, reasonably priced and served in nice glasses no complaints hereSo smooth out some inconsistencies in kitchen and service and you might get into a really big thing see it as it was it was an unexpectedly nice evening with good, at times excellent food and drink served by an enthusiastic team which made up for slight inconsistency with a smileThe dog will return- we tooThank you so much for leaving us this wonderful and very detailed review, we really appreciate you taking the time to write it and our chef enjoyed reading the remarks regarding his food. Thank you for your constructive feedback, we have taken your points on board and we will explore improving on certain aspects. We would love to see you all again in Becketts, especially your lovely doggy!Kind regards, Soraya

Called in for a light lunch. The service was excellent, drinks brought to the table, rare for a pub. Served a range of light bites. The real ales were very well kept. Quite rightly this pub is in the 2020 good beer guide.

Good menu, lots of tasty sounding things to try. Nachos were excellent, so much topping and nice big chunks of chicken breast. All had burgers which again were good, really liked the skinny crispy chips! Eten mess for dessert was a good potion size and super yummy. We used meerkat 2 for 1 so was incredible value for money. Service was really good, both people serving were helpful and really friendly.

Great find, whilst looking for a fish & chip restaurant. Takeaway with small seating area with good ambience and lovely helpful & friendly staff. Disappointed there was no plaice on the menu. There is a catch of the day and gluten-free and non-fish options. Quite different menu, with interesting sides and tried coleslaw with parmesan, cauliflower popcorn, smoked salmon fishcake, all delicious. Kids eat free 4-6pm Mon-Fri was an added bonus. Parking on street in parking bays.

Popped in for a bite to eat after a disappointing pint in the Still and West. Always carry cash so did not worry whether card machine not working (see review below). Chose a ham and cheese sandwich. The sandwich was large, well filled and with salad and dreamy, creamy coleslaw. The crusty bread was lovely and soft in the middle. The service was excellent.

Went to this restaurant with friends when we stayed in portsmouth this weekend, first things it is small but really lovely and very clean, staff are great and food amazing and cocktails fab. only reason it didn't get a 5 star is because two peoples side dishes were forgotten...which was a shame and they were very sorry and of course we were not charged.....other than that small hiccup the food was as I said brilliant.

We went to Bistro Monparnasse for a special Birthday celebration on 14th September. The restaurant was busy and every table had been booked, no surprise for a Saturday evening. You select where you would like to sit on arrival, depending on what is available for your booking number. The restaurant has a lovely ambience and, despite being full, was not noisy at all. As we were seated the waitress brought us a chive and cream cheese (minI) muffin and a paprika biscuit with goats cheese filling - these were lovely. We were asked if we would like drinks so ordered a peach champagne cocktail each. The waitress then provided a bread basket for us to choose (as much as we would like) we had one piece each of a herb bread and a walnut and raisin bread (so good!). The service was very brisk, which would be my only criticism (and hence why I did not give it 5 stars). We had barely started our cocktails when our starters arrived. We both had seared scallops, which were divine. During our starters the wine we had ordered arrived, even though we had still barely touched our cocktails. Our starters were collected and we continued to sip our cocktails. All too soon, our mains arrived, so we had to drink red wine and cocktails, not ideal. We both had the Lamb which, again, was superb. The presentation, attention to detail and the flavours were sensational. This is very high quality food at a very reasonable price. We were too full for puddings, which looked gorgeous. My advice would be to ask for slower service, unless you like your food to be delivered quickly between starters, mains and puddings.I will definitely return but will be a bit forewarned with the need to delay the speed of service.

We had a large full english with blk pudd and mushrooms added and a small vegan, coffee and a kickstart juice. It was really busy and we were forwarned of a 40 min wait, but it was worth it. Our drinks were brought to us almost immediately. The cafe has about 34 seats inc 3 x 2 seat tables outside. Everything was well cooked and girlfriend said it was THE best vegan breakfast she'd ever had! Staff maybe young but are very efficient in table clearing and keeping the very busy cafe clean and customers happy. Definitely reccomend.
