Top 10 Bike Tours in Nordland, Northern Norway

September 12, 2021 Emerita Lamoureux

Typified by steep mountains and the flat lowlands where they meet the Norwegian Sea, Nordland is known for its stunning scenery. The Lofoten Islands off the mainland are considered among the world's best for travelers and include unique attractions like the Lofotr Viking Museum at Borg. Saltstraumen near Bodo has the world's strongest tidal current. Further south, Vega has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its age-old lifestyle of fishing and eider duck down harvesting.

Biking at the Coast of Helgeland

Island jumping along the coast of Helgeland The coast of Helgeland in North Norway offers spectacular nature with towering mountain peaks, impressive ocean vistas and sheltered bays. There are thousands of islands, large and small, flat and round, long and narrow. By bike, you can travel all along the varied coast, around fjord indentations, across bridges and along the foot of majestic mountains. It won't be the hills that take your breath away on this trip, but the sights and impressions! Every day you will have a spectacular view of famous mountain landmarks: De Syv Sostre, Donnamannen and Torghatten. We have also planned a visit to the island of Lovund, which is famous for its large colony of Puffins. You also visit the island Vega, the myriad of islands, holms and skerries covering 1037 square kilometres in Vega municipality on the Helgeland coast is a unique, open cultural landscape of sea and land. The Vega archipelago reflects the way fishermen and farmers have, over the past 1500 years, maintained a vibrant community. The landscape along the coast of Helgeland is even and easy to cycle, with relatively little traffic on the roads. Everyday you can choose between short and long day trips – precisely the alternative that suits you best.

10. Bergodal

Bergodal

Cycling holiday in Vesterålen. This is an 8-day trip with 5-6 days by bike and the possibility of a mountain trip on the rest day. The trip starts from Harstad where you will be given fully equipped electric bicycles. Then the trip goes to Sigerfjord, Kvitnes, Hadsel, Øksnes, the blue city Sortland, and back to Harstad. The trip has some stages over 60 km, but the electric bikes make this possible for families with children, or those who want to spend less time on the bike, and more time strolling around beautiful Vesterålen. The lower age limit for cycling with an electric bicycle is 12 years (our recommendation). Check out our website for more details. Bergodal has arranged bicycle tours since 2004, mainly in Italy and France. We believe our concept for cycling holidays is also suitable for beautiful Vesterålen.
