Disappointing

Reviewed By alexandra0610

Difficult to find even with satnav, no signs when near hotel. Service upon arrival very indifferent and we didn’t get the room reserved.(maybe an Expedia mistake? But still I would have expected some kind of goodwill gesture from hotel). For the price of the room, it was not good, I would have expected a much higher level of comfort. Dark, dirty, and uncomfortable old beds. Horrible paper dispenser in bathroom that made it look like a public toilet. Very noisy too you could hear people outside and in other rooms. The location is terrible: it’s on the “ugly” side of town. A good 15 min walk in down probably the most horrible and dirty street in Zacatlán and on Sunday it turns into a street market which is a nightmare to cross. The restaurant did look nice but we didn’t try it. Only positive was a nice hot shower. Don’t be deceived though, you can find might better options at a better price elsewhere. I’m sorry but I would not return or recommend this hotel.

Location, location, location

The Hotel Zacatlan is very well located just a block and a half from the central square (zocalo). Clean, basic comforts, friendly staff, good value. However, if visiting in the colder season there is no heat in the guest rooms. Plenty of heavy blankets and lots of hot, hot water make up for the brief inconvenience of a cold floor in the mornings. Has parking in the central patio -- a plus.

A wonderful surprise! Enjoyed our stay

Reviewed By Alissa W

We weren't sure what to expect as I had purchased a groupon for this hotel. We've lived in Mexico for 2 years and know that things aren't always what you hope for so our expectations were low. We were pleasantly surprised! The rooms were clean and very nicely decorated. The beds had clean linens and several blankets to keep us warm at night which was a concern of other reviews plus the fact that it is very humid and cool in the area and especially in the rooms. We had rooms #1 and #2 which each had 2 double beds. Both showers could use a little help with water pressure and temperature, but we made it work. They also provided 3 towels in each bathroom and a 3-in-1 soap (body, hair, hands). The staff seemed to consist of 1 or 2 men that did everything, and when we could find one, were very helpful. The door that leads to the inside of the hotel with all the rooms stays open from 8am-6pm and it is shut and locked outside those hours. For us as Americans, it was a bit concerning that anyone could have access to our rooms so easily even though our rooms were locked, but we also understood the culture in which it is much more normal. One other thing to note is that most of the rooms do have windows to the outside, only to the inside hallway. Because of this, they are fairly dark and in the mornings, you would never be able to guess what time it is, so an alarm is important if you have plans. They are also quiet for the same reason. We could faintly hear a rooster or a dog. We used the upstairs dining room for our family, but brought our own food as we have 3 people who need to eat gluten free and we don't trust most restaurants. They didn't have a problem with us using the tables for our own uses, even for games. The first morning they had coffee and sweet breads available when we asked, but we didn't see any other food prepared or available, but there were only 1 or 2 other guests besides us. We did have trouble finding it, mostly because we were arriving at about 8pm, well after dark and our GPS couldn't seem to find it, so we took what we knew about the dirt road and keen eyes and didn't spend too much time circling to find it. Overall, I highly recommend this little gem and will likely be back when we have more visitors from the US.
