This popular resort town is located just a mile from Windermere Lake, the largest lake in England and alleged home to more than one peculiar sea creature. If we've scared you out of skiing, boating and fishing in Windermere Lake, there's always horseback riding and golf. Or you can explore the lake from the safety of a ferryboat, which regularly takes passengers from Hawkshead to Bowness.

Just returned from a wonderful few days at Jericho’s. Steve & Hayley are lovely friendly hosts. The guest house is pristine and beautifully decorated. The bed was so comfortable, and the shower, powerful. Breakfast was delicious each morning. The location is perfect for getting around the Lake District and just a few minutes walk into Windermere, yet in very quiet surroundings. I thoroughly recommend.

Glen Wynne is a 4 bedroom guest house situated 200 yds from the heart of Windermere and a 7 minute walk from Windermere station. Glen Wynne is a traditional Lakeland stone property dated from around 1860. You will find all our rooms come with en suites, comfortable beds with luxury bedding and hospitality trays filled with a selection of biscuits and hot drinks and fresh water. Glen Wynne is centrally located in Windermere, a 20 minute walk to the lake and Ambleside, Grasmere and Kendal are all within a 20 minute drive, along with several good walks especially Orrest Head with breathtaking views over the lake. Local eateries and bars such as Windermere Speakeasy, Villa Positano, Tapios and the Boardwalk all come highly recommended. There is free street parking outside and also a pay and display car park near by too.
We had a lovely one-night stay in the Coniston room which was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. The room was really cosy due to heating being on which I really appreciated on a cold, damp day. Slept well in nice bedding and room was very quiet. We managed to find a parking space immediately outside the property but were advised that we could borrow a parking permit if needed. The guesthouse is perfectly located, in a quiet street but a few minutes walk from restaurants and cafes. We were glad of local advice, especially regarding restaurants as we had a lovely meal at Cafe Italiano which was recommmended to us. It was around a 20 minute very pleasant walk to lake at Bowness although it's only a few minutes drive or bus ride if you'd prefer to drive. Would be happy to come back here.

We had a lovely time at Archway Guest house. Coniston room had a great view. Denis and Anita were awesome hosts. We loved the Caribbean & English breakfast, muffins and Lemon Drizzle cake. We really enjoyed the hike recommended by Anita to Windermere Lake from the guest house. Nice weekend away for couples.

Just come away from a very enjoyable and comfortable stay. I booked a single room which I was pleased to find actually had a queen size bed . Great shower and bed v comfortable...room larger than many single rooms I've stayed in before. As some reviewers have mentioned there is minimal contact with the owners but they are a young couple with school age children...plus run another business in town..so perfectly understandable. On the one or two occasions I needed to speak to someone the response was fast efficient and with a smile. Okay so any negatives? Well there seemed to be a problem with housekeeping...one day the tray of tea/coffee biscuits etc had been accidentally left in the room...another day I had to ask for clean towels as mine had been unchanged. The TV refused to let me watch SKY news for some strange reason..but this really wasn't worth mentioning However on other occasions the problem was fixed straightaway. Breakfast was fine with an unusually wide choice and I liked the system of ordering the day before... Memories of hospital stays!!! but with much better food! On the whole this is a well run hotel...with very few negatives.Oh yes... If you come by car you'll need to practice your manoeuvring skills in the car park...but there is room for everyone. Highly recommended and in my opinion good value for money...I hope to visit again.

We (2 adults, 2 children and a dog!) had a lovely break over the bank holiday weekend. The location is brilliant (2 minute walk to Windermere centre and about a mile from Bowness), the property is spotless and our room (The Oscar Wilde suite) was huge. Jeanette looked after us amazingly well, even treating our dog to sausages at breakfast! Highly recommended and we’ll be visiting again, thanks for a great stay!
