Casa Antonieta

Casa Antonieta is characterized for being a unique & peaceful place, combining the simplicity and hospitality of a Oaxacan home with the attention and quality of a modern hotel. Ideal to disconnect from everyday life, stop time and enjoy every moment. The architectural beauty of Casa Antonieta is of great importance to us. When entering the house, the first thing you will notice is the large columns that support the entire building. The perfect symmetry of the arches that surround the beautiful courtyard which allow the flow of air and light creating a fresh and peaceful atmosphere. It is a common area, where you can spend time having a cup of coffee from our own Muss Cafe while you plan your next trip, sit down, relax, have a chat, share your stories with us or with other travelers like yourself.

Home away from home

What a beautifully designed and put together space Casa Antonieta is. This private boutique hotel was the perfect place for our stay in Oaxaca. We where welcomed with such professionalism and care after a long flight, always found solutions to our every inquiry and greeted every day as if it was our first by the impeccable team. The food and cocktails are fresh and tasty, the hotel guest happy hour on the rooftop terrace was most welcomed after long discovery days & truly we felt like Casa Antonieta quickly became a home away from home.

Family birthday vacation

Pug Seal was an excellent experience. We arrived and were greeted with an inviting vibe and friendly faces. My wife and I traveled with our 5 yo son and absolutely loved it. To our surprise, the fridge inside the room includes complimentary Modelos (which can be refilled). The hotel itself is insta photo worthy, literally anywhere you go or sit, BOOM! profile pic lol. The staff is accomodating, friendly and attentive. We checked out to head to Puerto Escondido and couldn't take much luggage since we flew on a small plane. They safely stored our bags. When we got back, they were so welcoming and let us hang out. I, being a forgetful person, completely forgot plates and cups that my wife bought (I remembered on the flight back home). I contacted them and they were on top of it, of course I paid for shipping, but the level of attentiveness is great. Will definitely stay again. Huge shout out to the staff, you guys rock!

Very disappointing experience

Reviewed By Amanda A

While this hotel was a great location, I had a scary and ultimately extremely disappointing experience with this hotel. Oaxaca City is a truly incredible place, and the one drawback to my stay was the experience here. I stayed several nights at Posado Don Mario, and because the hotel isn't staffed during the night (which I completely understand!) each guest is provided a key to enter through a side door at night. I did so easily, and without issue, every night of my stay until the final stay, when I returned home from a friend's house and was not able to enter the hotel through the side door with my key, as I had on previous nights. Several people in the street came to try to help and use the key, all of them informed me it was not working because the door seemed locked from the inside. I knew how to open this door from my previous nights at Posado Don Mario, when I entered it without any problem, and I could also feel that the door had been locked from the inside. This is simply unacceptable. Whether the lock on the door was messed up or someone had bolted it inside, the hotel needs to take immediate action to ensure this does not happen again. I stood and knocked for about half an hour in the middle of the night, and I rang the bell repeatedly. No one came to help me. I was standing at the door until midnight and it felt like a dangerous situation and I was very scared. I am a woman traveling alone and I did not know where else I could go in the middle of the night to safely sleep, therefore I remained alone in the dark knocking for a long time, hoping that someone would come and open the door. One of the hotel staff had been sending personal texts to me at the phone number I was asked to give upon check-in (this was also problematic and very unprofessional). I was able to access the wifi and send him several texts about the situation and that I would have to find somewhere else to sleep. I informed him later that I slept at Casa Angel and paid 378 pesos to do so. He made no offer of a refund. The situation was distressing not only because it was unsafe and I did not know where to go, but because my cell phone was dying, my charger was in my room, I had none of the clothes or things I needed to sleep (it was very cold), and because I needed to retrieve my passport at 6 AM to take a COVID test in order to make sure I could fly to the US the following morning. Because I could not enter the building, I did not know if I would be able to retrieve my passport in time to make my test appointment and therefore to take my flight. I was up all night freezing, and worrying. I essentially paid Posado Don Mario to be locked out of this hotel and stuck out on the street at night without my belongings and then walked somewhere and paid again to sleep in a bunk bed instead of my own room. I shared all of this information with the hotel via email seven weeks ago and have heard no reply.

Very kind staff, and wonderful location tucked away a bit from the main drag (in a great way). I sincerely hope to return!

Leaves A lot to Be Desired

We stayed at La Casa de Maria in Oaxaca de Juarez Oaxaca. It is in the center of town. We had the "Turquesa"room, 2 double beds and a couch. No king size beds here that I know of. The air conditioning did not work well at all. The room did not cool down until 4 a.m. It was very hot in Oaxaca when were there. The room is large. The one positive about the room was the shower. Nice & hot water and plenty of water pressure. But not air conditioned. No hot water in the sink only a little trickle of water when you turn on the hot water valve. The bath towels were like sandpaper and quite old. No. need to bring your exfoliant. They advertise that breakfast was included, but no breakfast. They do give you bottled water everyday. It was clean and a cute atmosphere but air conditioning to me is quite important. The workers were all very nice but the owner needs to invest some money on upgrading the place. Within walking distance to the 20 de Noviembre Market, churches & zocalo. When we do go back we will stay elsewhere.

I was happy here for a week.

Reviewed By huntphd

On a pretty street in the NW part of town, Casa Los Arquitos is a find. Essentially a private home with a B&B to one side, the gentlemanly host Juan is usually home, alert to what is happening and I always felt safe. Decorated in mainly white with cheerful colors, the place is uncomplicated, well-maintained, and unusually clean. All rooms are on ground floor except one which is upstairs and larger, with a couch and kitchen, the one I took since I would be there a week, very comfortable and quiet. I liked the breakfast, which was yoghurt, granola, juice, fruit, and coffee, with toast if wanted, plenty given the wonderful restaurants that you are going to want to try. The location of this B&B is convenient for restaurants, the Guzman cathedral, and ARIPO (good prices, well-edited, government run handicrafts). However, it is a bit far from the zocalo; my solution, walk as far as I could, then take a cab back (cheap and plentiful). Several blocks away is a charming square where you might find a wedding party on Saturday night, On the Alcala nearby on weekends is Cocosec, a little courtyard full of stall restaurants and handicrafts, really good and cheap food and a fun hippie-vibe.

Great Price and Service

I loved the attention the staff gave me during my stay at the hotel. They were very helpful giving me directions and great suggestions for places to eat and visit. Location was great and we walk to every where from there. We went to another market close to the hotel that was more geared towards the locals. My only complaint will be the size of the bathroom. Tiny in comparison to bathrooms in USA.
