Top 10 Bed and Breakfast Inns in New Forest National Park Hampshire, United Kingdom

April 24, 2023 Leonarda Pillsbury

If you need a word to perfectly describe New Forest, “welcoming” would be it. The lowland (i.e. no mountains) park is filled with scenic views and wide trails that beg to be explored as they wind through centuries-old woodlands. Visit Bolderwood, a protected forest and deer sanctuary that was once the hunting grounds of the Norman kings. Fish at Moors Valley before heading skyward for a treetops walk. Prefer the country-house life? Head to Beaulieu, where you can get lost in the Victorian-era at the Palace House before following in the footsteps of medieval monks at the property’s abbey.

The Old Mill

We have 12 lovely individually decorated bedrooms, serving fresh homemade food. We try not to be pretentious, preferring instead to be informal and friendly, but we are still totally committed to quality and service. But the best part of all is the river and rambling gardens, home to a family of ducks and if you are lucky you might even spot a Kingfisher!

Deluxe Afternoon Tea for Two

Reviewed By smithie54

I took my friend as her birthday treat to The Thatched Cottage Hotel yesterday for Afternoon Tea and we had a wonderful experience. I was so concerned after seeing the recent disappointing review but anyone reading this and considering going, please know our day was perfect. We were greeted as we walked in and asked whether we would like to sit inside or outside. We opted for inside as the weather was unsettled. Our afternoon tea came on a pretty 3-tier display stand. The selection of sandwiches and sweets was described by the waiter. The bread of the sandwiches was very fresh with a choice of lovely thick smoked salmon, egg, ham and cream cheese with cucumber - this range of colours looked attractively displayed on the plate. Sweets were a fruit and a plain scone with us having individual trays holding lots of clotted cream and jam. The scones were slightly warm and tasted fresh - considering this was Sunday and over a long Jubilee Bank Holiday. The other sweets were small pieces of moist carrot cake, rich chocolate brownie and an individual lemon posset topped with granola. We were also offered as much tea and coffee during our time there. Two very satisfied customers who could hardly move after eating the delicious spread. I don’t usually write such a long review and description but to say I was much relieved after reading the very poor recent review is an understatement. The staff were polite and charming and the Gin Flight which they offer was explained with the range of gins on show. For us, this was a lovely afternoon. We too have had lots of afternoon teas but from yesterday’s experience, I would say The Thatched Cottage Hotel rates as one of the best. Thank you very much.

We spent 3 great nights on vacation, we have stayed many times over the years and always experienced a very good level of service and value for money pub style food. The area is outstanding and rooms very comfortable, the fabric of the hotel is looking tired now however the great staff make up for this in particular 'Paul' who is a credit to the Hotel with bags of energy and humour. Thanks to the team at The Beach House.

Loved it here!

We stayed here for two nights mid week. We had a standard double room at the front of the property that was very comfortable. Walk in power shower, heated towel rail, complimentary toiletries. Tea and coffee tray with biscuits. Beautiful church opposite lit at night. All 5 rooms are on the first floor. Breakfast is an optional extra and that was very good. Great selection of cereals, fresh fruit and yoghurts before a full English. Freshly cooked hot and very tasty. Situated in a very convenient spot just a 15 minute walk to the beach and close to the new forest. Locally there are two good pubs, the best for us was the Walker Arms a five minute walk. Food there is great with a special deal each week night and well worth a visit if you don’t want to drive. The proprietors of the Beechlodge, Adrian and Kate, are very hospitable and create a relaxed and laid back atmosphere, nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommend this place ansd quite sure we will visit again. Many thanks for making us welcome. Jan and Les.

The pub is well located in the centre of Lymington and has good secure parking. We were going to a wedding and Jay was really helpful with our check in and allowing us to change before we zoomed off. The bed was large and comfortable and the historic building interesting and quirky. Not a level floor anywhere, which added to its charm! The breakfast was particularly good. A good selection with plenty of veggie options. Quality ingredients well prepared. We felt this was good value and would recommend.
