180° valley view, good food, home'like rooms, friendly owners, polite and humble staff

Reviewed By Pranav0811

Kasang Regency provides "home-like" rooms, good place and 180° valley view. The property is only 16 mins from the main attractions of the town. It is home run by a friendly owner Gaurav, and his father. You would often find them around taking care of guests. The staff is polite and humble too. I am sure this will be our place to stay when we visit Lansdowne again.

Nice hotel with good scenic views

Reviewed By GunjanAjmani

We decided to book this hotel after going through the reviews which were available online. We booked 3 rooms on the top floor for 8 members. The rooms were nice and spacious. The verandah outside the rooms on the 4th floor had an amazing view of the valley. The location was also very good with main market in the vicinity. The only drawback that we faced here was that the network connectivity was very poor.

Gumkhal: A stay beyond Lansdowne

Reviewed By SiddhantB55

Hi! Today I'm sharing with the Trip Advisor community my review about Astre Vue resort and I had stayed in this resort from 13th April 2022 to 16th April 2022. Let me start by asking, is it the stay that matters the most or the place you've visited or a balance of both? For me it's about exploring the place and being a traveler. But when you pay a hefty amount for something and do not get the basics, it puts me off. I'll divide this review into pros and cons and let you know my outlook of this resort. Pros: 1. The staff members working in the food and room service departments are the ones putting in some real effort and by staff members I do not mean the ones managing them, but the ones who are actually putting food on your table and cleaning your rooms. There was a buffet system only on the last day of my stay, before that orders were being taken individually from guests and there were only 2 people from the kitchen staff who had to make several runs for so many guests. But from my point of view they did their job fine and it was hard on them also considering the guest capacity of this resort and the profit that the owner is making in return. My point being is that, either maintain a proper buffet system or hire more staff so that they are not overloaded by individual requests from the guests. During my stay, when I left the resort for nearby places and came back later, I got my room clean and organized. 2. Food is something that is based on individual liking and not something that can be judged based on reviews. I'm sharing my feedback for the food, but I would strongly urge people reading this review not to go purely by what I'm saying. Yes you may take a cue from my review, but it should not be that if I said something good or bad then it definitely is going to be. Your thinking and liking may be different from mine. Do not set very high expectations for the food here. This is a resort located in a village area meant to be a resort and not some 4 star or 5 star hotel. The spices in the food are balanced, will suit most palates and is also suitable for the kids and elderly. It is every thing basic and minimal like dal, roti, rice, "ALOO"(remember you're in Uttarakhand). But the food is hygienic, is nicely cooked and will fill your stomach properly. Like I said before, keep your expectations down to a minimum just like the owner should be keeping the resort prices (no pun intended). 3. The glass house. The resort has a nice glass house wherein the food is served for the guests. It is a decent sized glass house, which can house around 18-20 guests at a time. The highlight of this area is that one side overlooks the hills of Gumkhal village and from the other side you can peek at the garden, lawn and some cottages. The only downside is lack of proper ventilation in the glass house. 4. Some areas of the property are well maintained, such as the garden, lawn and the glass house. Variety of flowers have been placed all around and there is good grass cover in the property. 5. Some basic infrastructural necessities such as intercom facility in rooms, lighting within the premises of the resort, wheelchair access, fencing and guard rails are well taken care of. 6. Some of the staff is courteous, generous and polite. Cons: 1. Rooms. I haven't seen any other rooms in the resort except for 2 premium rooms which I had booked for my family. So my review is going to be for these 2 premium rooms only. My rooms were the ones located right at the parking of the resort, one above another. The ground floor premium room is a disaster for the price I had to pay. The room has a wooden door with holes in it, cracked mica and a shabby look. The walls have cracks, dampness and occasional black patches. I haven't seen anything before like the blinds in this room. It is just a piece of simple cloth with steel pipes put in between and they don't even completely stick to the windows, which is an issue when it comes to privacy. Be careful when rolling up or down these blinds as they are attached like a Velcro and may fall off easily. 2. The flooring in the room is also not well maintained and easily attracts dust and stains. The bed sheet, blankets and pillow covers are not fresh and soft. There were patches of stains visible on my blanket and in some parts it was a bit dirty. 3. The bathroom was decent and clean, however the wash basin had a big crack in it which is not a good thing to look at when you are paying a hefty price for your stay. On the first day water was leaking from the commode, for which I had to ask them on the reception to get it fixed. It was fine for sometime but after that the problem started once again. The towel placement rack was just above the commode which is a very hazardous place and your clothes and towel might just fall directly into the pit. 4. The room right above me was in a much better condition, and the bathroom was also well maintained than the other one. However, the material they have used to construct the room is very low quality. Being on the first floor you can enjoy the best weather, wind speeds and views in the balcony and within the resort premises outside the rooms, but within the room it gets very warm and suffocated. It's as if the outside temperature is 23-24 degree Celsius and inside the room it would be like 30 degrees. The same problem of blinds continues to this room as well. One of the blinds behind the bed did not even open and was completely stuck, and that window directly overlooked the valley with a sunset view (which we couldn't enjoy). 5. A few extra things need to be taken care of. The chairs in the balcony are a bit old and in a bad shape. Might be comfortable for the younger ones but not for the elderly. Better tables can be arranged in the room as per height and reachability for convenience. 6. The rooms are located right next to the parking and resort entrance. Some construction work is going on there, so you might see some workers behind this room passage. You might not like sitting in the balcony of the room when there are many guests and cab drivers around. Also, the main window of the ground floor room overlooks the trees and the valley behind but is kind of a bummer since it connects with the entry passage of the resort and you may see people roaming around there from time to time. 7. Last but not the least, the famous forest fires of Uttarakhand. This place is no exception. The fire comes so close to the resort that the premium rooms at the entrance become a nightmare. On 15th April 2022 I witnessed this thing first hand, when all the cars were removed from the parking area and part of the parking area was burnt by it. In just under an hour a complete area of green grass cover turned into charcoal black and all that smoke was being inhaled by us. To conclude, I'd say this resort has it's hits and misses, but the infrastructure and services offered by the resort need serious improvements for the price you are paying during peak season. The current price quoted by the resort is not at all justified. Secondly, I have seen some of the guests lose their patience at junior staff members during my stay. The staff members are not the ones who are going to improve the overall quality of this resort, it's up to the owner. And mind you the owner stays in the resort itself and did not even once come in front to take the blame or hear feedback or responses from the customer. I hope my review let's you make a thoughtful decision, so that you can enjoy the good points about this resort and have a happy time there. Also make a note of the shortcomings and let the owner and staff members aware about it.

Awesome place to stay in lap of nature. More importantly, you will enjoy sumptuous home made food with equitable hospitality. Mr Negi and all people there have made our stay memorable. Only thing which they have to improve are the rooms, which can be a bit more tidier and entail better amenities. The one thing that gives this place an advantage is its proximity to nature and homely atmosphere provided by the owners. Must visit once to have a memorabilia.
