Should have gone camping

Reviewed By paulbI781MS

This is a strange place! The building is old and characterful with great views. My bedroom was the large deluxe double at the front and, although being a bit tired decor wise, was fairly comfortable. When I arrived there was a quiz on, followed by karaoke. I can’t blame the hotel for the singing quality, but it was pretty excruciating trying to eat dinner to that background! The let down for my stay was some of the staff, and the food. When I went to bed I noticed that a fire door near my room was beeping - close enough that I could hear it in bed so it would disturb me. When I went downstairs to tell the staff I was told to either have another drink or stuff a napkin in my ears! There was no offer to help in any meaningful way. Sure enough I was kept awake until about 3.30am by the beeping noise. I’ll admit to not being in the best mood when I came down for breakfast, but instead of breakfast reviving me it just made things worse. The young lady serving seemed to have no idea what she was doing, but also no sense of customer service. The cooked breakfast was a mixture of cold beans and molten sausages so clearly hadn’t been cooked to order. The only coffee available was instant granules next to a thermos of hot water. I wouldn’t describe myself as a coffee snob but when you’ve paid £130 for a night I would at least expect some proper coffee. Maybe it was an off night with new staff, I don’t know. But I cannot recommend this place.

Vile

Reviewed By paula b

Ate here on Saturday with friends . Disappointed they changed the outdoor menu to four options only . Me and my husband opted for the steak burger and my granddaughter had the hot dog . It was vile the burgers tasted like cheap frozen burgers and the so called hot dog was off . One bite and spat it out . Told the lad who collected glasses and he just laughed. Will never eat here again

Lovely community-run pub

Reviewed By ruthjanet2016

Stayed in this friendly pub in a beautiful part of Wales and can highly recommend it. We had the room with self-catering facilities and it was excellent. There is a full kitchen so you could cook a roast dinner if you wanted to! The bed was comfy, it was very clean, there was no noise from the (fairly ) full bar downstairs and there was a continental breakfast in the fridge for the morning. Just a few steps away there is a community-run shop where you can stock up on any essentials you have forgotten. The pub serves good beer and the customers are very friendly. Higly recommend this for a lovely relaxing stay.

My husband and I stayed at the Hawk and Buckle for two nights last week. We had a fabulous stay, our room was comfortable and very spacious. It’s a fabulous family run business, everyone was so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We had a very friendly welcome from Eirian and that continued throughout our stay. All our meals were great, we ate both in in the bar and restaurant and each meal was so tasty. Breakfast was fabulous, all fresh and local produce and superbly cooked, views overlooking the countryside onto the sea made it!! Thank you so much Eirian, we look forward to seeing you and your family soon ?

The property is immaculately kept and the staff were lovely, friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was lovely and enough to start the day. The rooms were very clean and tidy, the shower was great, hot and powerful and the view from the front bedrooms was beautiful, main beds in both front rooms are huge and comfy and the decor is all matching. Lovely old building and we will definitely book again when we are next at GYG or in the area. The seagers x 4
