Stayed with my wife on Saturday 28th of May. Cannot find any negatives about this place. Its in a nice location located along the canal. We stayed in one of the outbuildings. The room itself was perfect, genuinely couldn't find any faults. We had booked a meal in Chester so didn't have tea but we did have the breakfast in the morning which was lovely. The whole feel of the place from the location, the staff to the food was just what we wanted when celebrating our Anniversary, so nice that we've already booked to come back in a couple of weeks x

great music and foos in the city centre

Reviewed By davidcR1168TA

The Saddle Inn is Chester's sole rock bar, right in the centre of the city and their website promised an interesting stay in rock themed rooms. 5 stars for being so much more than this. Stayed in the Metallica room, a clean, good sized and light room with its own en-suite. Great welcome from the owners and lovely staff. Evening meals were really good portions, had a really good rib eye steak & chips one night and home made fish pie the next . Breakfast did not disappoint, cereals to full english, freshly made, sufficient to set me up for the day. Finally have to mention the rooms, each is a mini tribute to various rock bands. Memorabilia abounds, a real guitar over hung the bed (looks the same one as the band photo), a table cleverly made from an up turned drum, a gold disk adorns the wall together with informative reviews of the band. These rooms have been lovingly put together for the masters of rock, on my way upstairs I passed other rooms - ac/dc, slayer, megadeth, kiss etc each room being uniquely decorated for each band. It makes the whole stay memorable, look forward to coming back.

The Pheasant Inn

Tucked in a peaceful corner of rural Cheshire, The Pheasant enjoys some the most magnificent panoramic views across the Cheshire plains. Delightful 300 year old sandstone buildings, open log fires, a flower-filled courtyard for drinks as the sun goes down - they all add up to magic. Nestling in the Peckforton Hills, this is a rambler's and hiker's paradise. A relaxing country retreat to escape from the hustle of city life or for a romantic weekend.

Incredibly disappointing - will not be returning

Reviewed By matthewjJ5745IZ

We visited the Pheasant Inn today for our wedding anniversary meal and left utterly disappointed, angry and offended. After pre-booking online 24 hours ahead we arrived to be seated in a dark corner of the pub next to the toilets. Since there were multiple free tables around us we asked if there was any chance of being moved. We were told "no, it's a bank holiday and we're booked up". Ok fair enough we thought, except that for the 1 hour and 45 minutes we were in the pub, multiple other tables remained unoccupied - this was reflected in the online booking system showing a number of available slots. We both ordered the spring lamb main and drinks. The next table over arrived 15 minutes after us, ordered their food, received their starters, main course and even ordered desert before we received our food. After 45 minutes wait, a waitress came to the table to 'confirm our orders' without explanation. After an hour of waiting with no communication from staff we asked where our food was. It took approx. 1 hour and 20 minutes for our food to arrive without and apology from the staff. We were presented with half empty plates of 3 small fingers of lamb, a small portion of greens and a mini meat & potato pasty - this was beyond disappointing after the ridiculous wait, not to mention them charging £25 each for such meagre portions. We asked for the bill and finally received an apology for 1 hour and 20 minute wait in the form of "10% off your bill". They failed to mention gratuity of 7.5% had been added automatically. We approached the front of house staff to complain about the ridiculous wait and poor standard of food only to receive the poorest treatment yet. The staff member's initial response was terse and dismissive, stating they had already taken 10% off the bill. When I responded that I wasn't happy with the price for the standard of service and food they responded "well I'm not going to let you have the meal for free". I've never been so offended. This staff member was clearly under pressure with the bank holiday, but to accuse us of not wanting to pay when we'd said no such thing (in front of other customers) was utterly disgusting. Being unhappy with a bill and refusing to pay are entirely different situations and can usually be rectified with a little customer service - something the staff at the Pheasant clearly lack. We finally settled the bill at 50% off which we paid then left. I'm still shocked at the poor service we received in one of the supposedly highest rated pubs in Cheshire. We have no intention of returning, the two star rating is for the beautiful location and views only. Incredibly disappointing.

Very poor quality

Reviewed By 957willa

I visited the coach house inn today with a friend for a meal and a drink. I couldn't believe how poor the food was. The chicken was like rubber, and as for the salad, it was like something that has been retrieved from the dust bin. If I wasn't so hungry I probably would not touched anybody it. And to add insult to injury it was not cheap. We told the waitress what we thought. She was very apologetic. The waiting staff were so helpful. I feel sorry for them as its certainly not their fault. I'll never set foot in this establishment again. Avoid at all cost.

Stayed for 1 night in Brewers Cottage Double room really small. No hanging space for clothes just 4 wall hooks with coat hangers on, not worth £101 which did not include breakfast Im afraid.Glad we were only staying 1 night. Bed not very comfy. Shower, dangerous, very slippy, no hand rail or anywhere to put down shower gel or shampoo! Neighbouring room occupants were very noisy, but I know thats not hotels fault. Had evening meal, quite nice but very overpriced. Did not have breakfast as overpriced. Would not stay here again. Staff were very pleasant though.

I found Rose Ville B&B on trip adviser as I needed somewhere to stay overnight in my golf trip. All other hotels were either booked up or (in my view) overpriced for what they were offering. Rose Ville did not disappoint. I was greeted by Tracy with a welcoming smile and handshake and Willow the dog. The accommodation was outstanding high quality and totally 5 star. I would absolutely recommend a stay here if you are looking to get away from the standardised approach of the big hotels. It’s set in a lovely quiet street and only a shot hop from Chester town centre. The breakfast was awesome cooked by Jerry who makes a mean full English. If you want some where quiet to stay in 5 star luxury then Rose Ville is the place to go. I’ll certainly add it to my favourites for when I’m next in the area.

WORST YHA Hostel in 20 years of stays, most unsafe hostel accommodation EVER (had to sleep in communal bathroom!)

Reviewed By truebluereview91

I am writing this review in the interest of other people’s health and safety – I IMPLORE you to stay away from this hostel! I have been staying at YHA hostels for nearly 20 years and as a Life Member I am a big advocate of their ethos. But this is the most awful, horrendous experience I have ever had of holiday accommodation. After checking-in I visited the Dorm Room I was staying in and found several bottles of alcohol and could smell smoke. Raised my concerns with the duty manager (who seemed keen to close reception early) who after checking the room, stated it was OK for the others to have alcohol in there, they weren’t smoking when he arrived and the fire alarm had not been triggered, so in his view there were no issues. Another guest from the room followed the manager back to reception and became confrontational towards me for alleging he had been smoking in the room despite me making it clear I stated I could smell smoke/vapour and made no such accusations. The duty manager did not intervene and allowed the guest to continue being aggressive towards me. I asked the duty manager to be moved to another Dorm Room as I did not feel safe and comfortable, particularly because of this fellow guest. He insisted it was safe for me to be in the room as the other guests had been in the Dorm Room for a few days ‘and are good guys, you don’t need to worry’. I was told it would not be cost-effective to be moved to another room, and that I would have to pay for a new room if I wanted to move as my reasons to move ‘were not enough’. Again I would like to make clear that never in any of my previous stays have I found alcohol scattered across a Dorm Room and smelt smoke/vapour. So I was flabbergasted by the response of the duty manager. Later in the evening when I returned to the room and into bed (I slept with all my possessions by my side), the two other guests were talking loudly, swearing excessively in conversation, drinking, and the same guest who had been confrontational towards me was consistently vaping. We shared a bunk bed, with him on the lower and myself on the upper bed, so the vapours were lingering around me and I was unable to sleep because of this and the noise. When I asked him to talk quietly, he insisted he could not whisper. He then sarcastically asked me if I thought he should ‘use a walkie talkie’ and that he would continue talking as he liked. All his behaviour seemed deliberate and provocative following the confrontation earlier in the evening, and it was clear he was drunk. I had no choice but to leave the room as it became increasingly unsafe. This could have all been prevented if the manager had been professional and provided good customer service by relocating me to another room. Nevertheless, I returned to reception which was closed and located the Emergency Telephone. But it wasn’t working, so I had no way to contact the duty manager or any other staff. In the end, I had to grab a couple of benches from the dining room and slept in the communal bathroom. It is the most appalling, degrading and humiliating experience I’ve EVER had in guest accommodation.
