Top 10 Bars & Clubs in Whitechapel, England

March 20, 2022 Trinity Boughner

The crown jewels, Buckingham Palace, Camden Market…in London, history collides with art, fashion, food, and good British ale. A perfect day is different for everyone: culture aficionados shouldn't miss the Tate Modern and the Royal Opera House. If you love fashion, Oxford Street has shopping galore. For foodies, cream tea at Harrod’s or crispy fish from a proper chippy offers classic London flavor. Music and book buffs will love seeing Abbey Road and the Sherlock Holmes Museum (at 221B Baker Street, of course).

Apples & Pears

A fun, independent cocktail bar off Brick Lane with an outdoor area, serving fabulously mixed drinks, pizzas and DJs every weekend. Our music programme is eclectic and lively, spinning everything from motown, soul, funk, old school hip hop and beats at the weekends and during the week, live acoustic sessions.

Another great night in Apples and Pears. Lovely atmosphere, staff and cocktails. Can't wait to go back, again!

THE BAR LOCKS

We stumbled upon this absolute gem of a pub whilst ironically trying to find a new local - after one of our regular haunts shut down and the second becoming yet another victim to the relentless gentrification spreading throughout the area. When we entered the pub for the first time, we were warmly welcomed by the Publicans Mark & Jackie, as well as some of the regulars themselves. They really are two of the nicest people we have had the pleasure of meeting and have done a tremendous job in resurrecting what was once a complete ramshackle into a now spotless and friendly family run traditional East End boozer. Brilliantly priced beer and wine for this part of East London (considering you are on the doorstop of "The City"), superb freshly cooked food (the menu is amazing!) along with Sky Sports, Darts and a top notch Jukebox to boot make this our go-to pub. I can't recommend or praise The Bar Locks highly enough.

Easy to find if you know where to look!! We loved it, went back twice in one night!! Small basement bar with great range of drinks. Lovely, slightly different twist on cocktails. The staff were fab, super friendly, giving the place a great chilled out, relaxed atmosphere. It was quiet early on but packed when we went back after dinner with music playing. I imagine it would be great for a private party. I would highly recommend this little bar if your anywhere near Liverpool Street. I'm sure we will be back and have already been telling others to go.

Leman Bar and Lounge

Erected in 1858, The Old Dispensary, was one of England’s earliest institutions to provide free healthcare to the poor. Among its founders was the Duke of Wellington – perhaps notably, he was also at one time, a prime suspect in the Jack the Ripper case. Closed during the Second World War, these premises have a special architectural and historic interest that has played host to many a raconteur. Now, this stunning building conceals one of the most stylish bars in the City, with a full complement of top brand spirits and a tasty cocktail menu. Couple this with the chic styling of a 'private club' and its after-hours night club feel and you have all the makings for an awesome place to relax and indulge.
