The sandy coast of Goa is perfect for reclining by the sea. Nestle into a cushioned chair at a beach shack and savor a curry while you sip a Kingfisher beer, watching the sun slip lazily below the horizon. In Old Goa, the beautiful Basilica of Bom Jesus is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a fine example of baroque architecture. Visit during Christmastime to experience a fantastic religious and cultural mash-up of East and West.

Prehistoric Rock Art Gallery

Reviewed By DilipS239 - Vadodara, India

I reached the site of Usgalimal Rock Carvings 35 km from Majestic Beach Comforts , Varca at 1445 on 22nd Feb . There was no entrance fee . Ramakant , a caretaker was there . He took an empty bottle and ushered me into an unknown world . He filled the bottle with the water from Kushavati river and poured on the outlines of various carved figures to bring 150 petroglyphs , carved by humans around 8,000 to 10,000 years ago , to the life one by one . The rock face was covered with carvings and renderings of different animals and birds including bulls , deer , dogs , elephants , horses and peacocks . A peacock was so cleverly illustrated to optimize the most uneven surface of the rock. There was a wonderful ‘ x-ray bull ’ sequence , where the internal bone structure of a bull were carved into the rock face. The animals interact with each other and with the humans . There is a hunting scene where a large spear is shown to be pierced into a bull . The barbed harpoons and spear alongside the animals indicated that those who indulged in this art were hunter-gatherers of prehistoric period. There were human figures too – arguably the most interesting being a woman and a child connected with an umbilical cord . Another interesting figure was of a female dancer extending her hands in ecstasy . This action and pose explained the lot of intelligence shown by the carver . Symbolic cross indicating its use for knowing directions and several holes symbolising fertility cult indicating vulvae in the mother earth were visible . The engraving of Triskelion with 3 heads resembling serpent hoods at the centre having seven concentric circles and a diameter of two m. was perhaps the unique symbol found in India . Most probably the engravings were carried out by specially prepared sharp pointed hard ferruginous stone tools .

I highly recommend the Din Brothers for excellent customer service and high quality diamond jewellery. My partner proposed at the Taj Mahal so we visited the shop to look at engagement rings. Zubair and his brother were extremely helpful and made me an engagement ring exactly as described. We were so pleased we ended up purchasing a wedding ring to match! Since we returned home both rings have been valued almost twice what we paid in India. Very pleased indeed.

The best part of our trip to Goa last monsoon was our visit to this wonderful museum located in an industrial zone near Saligao. This is a private museum conceptualized by Mr.SUBODH KERKAR,a physician turned Historian. We need to start our visit with a 15 minute video regarding the History of Goa.All the Paintings ,sculptures and photographs depict the history of Goa.....It was surprising to note that Chillies and Maize were brought by Portuguese from South America to India. It was great to see lot of paintings and sculptures regarding Fish, the staple diet of Goan people. It was interesting to note that the concept of Motorcycle Taxis was started in Goa.A Tribute was paid to Mahatma Gandhiji,Father of our Nation.we also get to see a collection of nice oil paintings depicting the occupation of early goans.Goa's Ark stood out among all the sculptures. We were told that Art Exhibitions are conducted here throughout the year. You have a small Coffee shop also.At the end,we can purchase some souvenirs from the Souvenir shop.we bought two fridge magnets( including one Red chilli magnet) and a small book about the Museum. we were pleasantly surprised when we had a chance to meet Dr,SUBODH KERKAR,the brain behind this beautiful museum....on the whole,a must visit destination when you visit Goa.

I loved the Kashmir Wood craft work this emporium offers. From a couple of hundred Indian Rupees to a couple of hundred thousand Rupees, everything is available. Such beautiful handicraft chairs, Tea tables, dining tables and side tables. I bought 6 dining chairs, 2 rest chairs, 2 tea tables, and also ordered dining tables, side table and the GRAND king size Bed from Amin, one of the owners. Everything is made of Walnut Wood, which is tougher than teak, lighter and more flexible for carving, and is durable to pass it on to multiple generations.
