Dion Archaeological Park

Reviewed By 716melvink - Derby, United Kingdom

We spent more than two hours in Dion and loved it. The City area shows the sheer scale of the town and the large Cardo was reminiscent of streets in Pompeii. The only disappointment was the theatre with its ramshackle wooden seating. It was mind blowing to stand in the field where Alexander the Great pitched his massive tent and share the same view of Olympus that he had. An absolute must see.

Ancient Stagira

Reviewed By djomlas - Chicago, United States

Greek archaeologists at Ancient Stagira, Central Macedonia, say they have found Aristotle’s tomb. Addressing the Aristotle 2400 Years World Congress, they point to the 2,400-year-old tomb as the most important finding from the 20-year excavation. The discovery of the tomb of Aristotle was announced by archaeologist Kostas Sismanidis, according to whom the findings from the 1996 excavation lead to the conclusion that the tomb belongs to Aristotle. Aristotle was born in Stagira in 384 BC and died in Chalcis, Evia, at 322 BC. The great philosopher was originally believed to have been buried at Chalcis, however, archaeologists are now certain that the tomb they have found belongs to Aristotle. Two literary sources indicate that the people of Stagira may have transferred his ashes to his birthplace

Archaeological Site at Pella

Reviewed By 190nancyv

Pay a visit to the museum first, to get to know more about the history of Pella as capital of the ancient Macedonian Kingdom, about Philip the II and Alexander the Great and then wander at the archaeological site where you can admire the beautiful mosaics and the energy of the ancient city. It 's only 40 km away from Thessaloniki, it would be a shame to miss such an opportunity. The site is especially lovely in Spring.
