Vitamin Sea & Sunsets

We visited Astir Odysseus the first week in June as a couple. We booked through Jet2 – which we would highly recommend, especially if going from ? M a n c h e s t e r ?. Wow, what an amazing holiday and hotel! A week flew by, and I wanted to stay so much longer, but hope to return. I think the place to start is the views, from mountains on one side to sea and island views on the other, the location of this hotel is exceptional for scenery and of course sunsets!! We even saw lightening across Turkey/Bodrum a few nights whilst staying here which was amazing to sit and watch from afar. It’s been a while since I’ve stayed in a beach front hotel, and it made me realise how much I love and have missed having a private beach right there at the hotel. The colour of the sea and the sound of the waves was beautiful to look at and listen too. One of the best things about this hotel was the lagoon/beach pool, as it was perfectly located for sea views and a sea breeze, the sunbeds were spacious (and we never had a problem getting a sunbed – no morning rushes and reserving), and the pool itself was great. It was always a little cool upon getting in, but you soon adjust to the temperature. You can order drinks to your sunbed via the app you download at check in which is a great feature. We were half board during our stay, which worked well overall. There is the option to upgrade to All Inclusive at the hotel so personally I would consider booking half board and consider upgrading at the hotel if it is better value. The drinks are around €3 for a soft drink or juice, €4 for a beer, €9 for a cocktail, so we would’ve had more to drink had we been all inclusive, but we are big water drinkers and were happy buying the large bottles of water from the hotel shop for €1 a few times a day. One of the reasons we stuck with half board was because of lunch. Lunch in the hotel is at the Argo restaurant where all inclusive have free access to a lunch buffet or can pay a reduced amount for a freshly prepared lunch (salad, pizza, sandwiches etc). We ate here and paid full price for our lunch most days but thoroughly enjoyed the food prepared, a lot more than we would have enjoyed buffet for lunch and tea every day, so it was worth it for us – everything we ate was amazing: Greek Salad, Ceaser Salad (with smoked salmon), Special Pizza, Chicken Focaccia sandwich and more. You get bread and butter before, and melon after with your lunch for free too when having a meal. Another thing to note is the Ithaka A La Carte restaurant isn’t included in All Inclusive and this is somewhere we wanted to eat so again being half board worked fine for us in this instance… PLEASE go and eat at Ikatha during your stay – it is honestly one of the best experiences and meals we’ve ever had. The service was exceptional, the views of the sunset were unbeatable, and the food was amazing. We both tried grilled octopus for the first time, and it was honestly one of the best things I’ve ever eaten! It was so quiet when we went, only us and 1 other couple in the restaurant. There are so many different room options here, so it was interesting to walk around the hotel and scope out the different types – we stayed in a basic room with garden view and we were very pleased with the cleanliness and room features we had, as well as the quietness of our room location. We did feel some rooms would be busier than ours in terms of people walking past etc. In the room there is full size bottles of shampoo, body wash and body lotion which if we’d known this would’ve saved us some packing weight. You don’t have to pay for a safe or Wi-Fi here too which is good. There really are not many negatives – not enough to put me off returning anyway – but just some things to note. We were aware of a Greek hotel tax before arriving as Jet2 has told us we would be required to pay this upon arrival to the hotel, however this didn’t happen and so we were a bit unprepared (basically forgot about it) when it was presented to us to pay at the end of our stay when checking out – so please be aware of that. It was €28 for a week for the 2 of us. The food in the main restaurant did get boring, it started off well, we thoroughly enjoyed our first evening of Greek food and the second evening was a Mexican themed night which was great but then for the rest of the holiday there was no other themes, and it became a bit repetitive in the end. The restaurant and food were lovely, and we were a big fan of breakfast (shout out to the lovely omelette guy), but I think this was the only thing we would’ve started to struggle with had we been staying longer than a week. We also, as a couple in quite a family occupied hotel, liked to go to dinner a bit later when it was quieter, sometimes after the sunset so 8:30/9pm – and it did feel like food began to run out and they weren’t refilling, so slightly less selection or fresh food. Our biggest disappointment however was not being able to get to Tingaki via bus. We had a lovely day out to Kos town, super easy to get on the bus outside the hotel and back, and we thought it would be just as simple to hop on the bus to go 5km in the other direction to the main strip on Tingaki, and the beach and/or the Salt Lake. But we were told we’d have to get a taxi which would be €12 each way, so on this occasion we decided against it which is a shame, perhaps if we went at a slightly cooler time we would’ve hired bikes and cycled there. Jet 2 state the transfer time is approx. 50 mins, but it was more like 1hr 30 – I would consider booking a private transfer next time to avoid the bus journey.  Another thing to note is the size of this hotel, even on our sunbathing days we both did 10,000 + steps a day, and because our room was close to the front of the hotel it could take 10 mins to get to the end of the lagoon pool where we liked our sunbeds. It was fine for us, but good to be aware of. But honestly, if you are thinking of booking this hotel, and our looking for a hotel that has everything you need to unwind and have a fun break then DO IT. It was an absolutely amazing holiday and I have major holiday blues now – thank you Astir Odysseus.

Great value for money

I went with my mum. niece and 4 children aged from 1 to 13yrs Accomodation was very basic but immaculately clean. We travelled with Jet 2 and the app we used, the information on the hotel was out of date. There was no dvd in the rooms anymore. TV on one room only 1 channel in English. No bath and shower okay. Hairdryer crap took 20mins to dry my fringe so advisable to take your own. Also take coat hangers only a few in wardrobe. Cleaners were so friendly, tidied room to a high standard and folded your pjamas into a animal shape. Chatted away and left a large bottle of water every day. Fridge in the room but all goes off when you leave the room as you need to use the key. Low lightening in the room. Staff Outstanding to say the least - from cleaning staff, restaurant staff, bar staff, entertainment staff, ground maintenance cannot fault any one of them. Had to see a doctor for my son whilst there and seem straight away by nurse followed by doctor 15 mins later. Again great service. Pools Great choice from adult only to kids paddling pool, water park pool and wave pool. Fun for all. The pools don't open till 10am in the morning. Each one has its own lifeguards who are very interactive and friendly. Hotel allow you pool towels that you can swap every other day which was handy. Enough beds and seats for everyone Bars Pool bar open 10am till 1am. You are given a token per person at the start of the holiday and you pay a deposit for these to encourage you to return your cups to the bar. This was evidently working as no empty cups lying around. Drink choice is the usual stuff. Hotel bar open 5pm to 1am again this was mentioned in the Jet 2 app as opened from 10am to 1am which is not the case. This bar you don't need the tokens and you get proper glasses. Lovely comfy sofas and seating and good music with friendly consistent staff. Food I was very impressed with the food range, quality and times offered. Snack bar at pool from 12 to 3pm small selection of common foods which varied day to day - chips, burgers, pasta. Main restaurant opened from 6am to 11am - continental first and last hour. Hot food I'm between as well as continental. You name it they made - chips all day for breakfast through to dinner. Each night they had a different theme of food. Entertainment Daytime we had aerobics and games in the wave pool. Activities on the stage throughout like darts and dancing. Kids club which we didn't really use as kids too busy in pools and on slides. Mini disco at night then some entertainment after which was okay - 1 good one during our stay the acrobatics show. Staff always got you involved and were genuinely interested in you.

A fantastic break!

Reviewed By 278grantr

We were originally booked to go on a cruise which was cancelled due to Covid-19 so once the easing of the lockdown kicked in, we booked for Majorca which was then added to Scottish quarantining on return so we changed the booking to this hotel in Kos. I have to say that we were overwhelmed by the view from the adults only pool, (which was one of three pools) and the tranquil and relaxed vibe it gave off. The room was spotlessly clean and the room attendants were fantastic and created animals from fresh towels when making the room up which was amusing and a nice touch. The entertainment team were fantastic and full of energy as they were on the go from breakfast time until the all inclusive finished at 23:00. At our time of travel, around 90% of the hotel guests were French so the entertainment was predominately directed at French guests however, we weren't put off as the team were very funny and put on different shows each night. The food was superb and possibly the best all inclusive food we've had anywhere, it was full of flavour, warm, plentiful and from all countries. The entire hotel staff were excellent, very helpful, attentive and pleasant especially Eleftheria at the adult pool bar, nothing was too much trouble. We arrived at 23:15 in the evening and our room had a bottle of wine waiting for us with sandwiches and fruit and a lovely card from the Hotel Manager, "Mr Tony" to welcome us and we have to mention Mr Tony in more detail as he is probably the best Hotel Manager I have ever had the pleasure to meet, he worked tirelessly, 14-15 hours daily but still made time to have a chat with as many people as he could and one evening he chatted with myself and my wife for some time whilst showing us pictures of his beautiful family as they live on a different island and as we chatted, it showcased Mr Tony's knowledge, skills and immense experience in the hospitality industry and not to mention the six languages he speaks so thank-you Mr Tony, it was a pleasure to have met you Sir and thank-you to your entire staff for a truly memorable holiday. We will without question return to this wonderful hotel.

Amazing hotel , amazing staff , the perfect holiday! ☀️

I really can’t express how exceptional this hotel is with customer service. It’s our check out day today and Andy has just printed all our documents out for us, the two men (can’t remember their names as it’s to difficult to pronounce ?) in the restaurant we’re going to try get it open early just so we could let the kids eat before heading to the airport ( may I add they weren’t charging the kids). Also when I asked Andy yesterday if we could get a late check out it was just a case of consider it done ( free of charge again). There was a lovely lady on the reception that helped us with bus time tables, called us taxis , basically any question we had she would help us organise for this. Amazing 5 star service. Rooms- very spacious, great big balcony and small kitchen area which we never used. The rooms had maid service everyday apart from a Sunday. Each day we would come back to a spotless room and all the beds made , even although I had three kids in the room you wouldn’t know it after it was all sorted. Pool bar and pool- we used the big pool which was located at the back of our apartments. There was table tennis, pool tables a lovely wee seated area to eat also. Can’t express how beautiful the wee woman was that made our lunch each day, her food was spot on and she was full of smiles each day. I loved the pool as I love to do lengths so we used it daily. My kids were happily entertained each day and my 3 year old could use the kiddie pool which was just the perfect size for her. Food- great selection of food which I didn’t find difficult to fill a plate. There wasn’t any kids options in the main restaurant but I managed to find something each night to fill them up. I’ve probably missed some info but just had to jump on make sure I left a review for this fabulous hotel. I would give it more stars if I could. First time in Greece and it defo won’t be my last now. Thanks to all the staff who made our holiday amazing ???

Labeling all inclusive service unacceptable, otherwise a nice place to stay.

Reviewed By Albert_Russ123

The positives: the hotel is in a good, yet quiet location. Clean rooms and the stuff friendly in general. The hotel manager (Michael) was very friendly and prepared us dinner even when we arrived late. He was very helpful and cooperative. The negatives: The hotel was overpriced by the travel agency and labeling the service "all inclusive" is cheating. You cannot even freely access water on your own. All food was delivered on the table and all drinks had to be requested separately- in the heat outside 0,2 L glasses at a time with each additional glass of water or any other beverage had to be requested separately. This would still be ok but most of the time there was absolutely nobody at the bar. There was one older lady who did not seem very cooperative and each request for an additional 0,2L of water seemed to annoy her. I requested a total of three glasses totalling 0,6L of water over 45 minutes which seemed to make her pretty mad. The average temperature for lunch during the heat wave was 37C but it still made sense to be allowed to eat outside due to safety reasons. However at one point when we came for lunch, all restaurant tables in shade were occupied so we decided to pick a table in shade closer to the bar. The tables were more less the same and it would have been ok to use all available tables in the shade. However we were demanded to change our seats for lunch to a table in full Sun. The rules which table were to be used defied weather and logic. I had to break from lunch because I started to feel dizzy in the heat. We traveled a lot on the island and skipped breakfast and lunch a few times just to save time. The people from the hotel knew it well due to small number of guests so the "all inclusive" service has been cut even further. Still, after checking out and waiting for transfer to the airport, we were requested to pay even for water at 12.05 PM- 5 minutes after our "all inclusive" ended. Thus we chose to spend the final hour at a nearby bakery- in shade. In conclusion, it may be that the travel agency (Fisher, Czech republic) knew beforehand that the "all inclusive" service would not occur but they made this offer to make it look more attractive- and much more expensive. However limited access to baverages due to no self service and constant lack of personel at the bar is bad management and service of the hotel. The same applies for forcing us to sit in sun during the middle of the worst heat wave when there are several tables available in the shade. I love Kos and would return happily but would prefer to select a hotel without food and rather go to a supermarket or a restaurant to avoid similar experience. The service was definitely no way worth what we payed for!!!
