I’d say this place is one of the rare shops that has kept its traditional look for over 100 years The owner is still present in-store and if your lucky to meet him . He is the last of the Irish gentleman and full of knowledge and still tries what he can do to sell something along the way even without you even noticing ha ha Even just to browse and visit such a store is a treat in itself Staff are fantastic and friendly Don’t miss out when visiting Sligo It on I Connell street

Strand House Cafe

The Strand is quite an experience. It has all the novelty items you would find in any of the souvenir shops in and around Dingle but, it is more than this, much more. It has an excellent ladies and gentleman's sections where you can find a wide choice of fine clothing and unique gift ideas all at very reasonable prices as well as many really good items on on sale prices. Then, there is their cafe. If you really want to treat yourself make it a point to visit The Strand Cafe. If you are looking for excellent food this is a must place. Terrific dishes on the menu board daily all very tasty and priced along with some of, if not, the very best desserts in all of Dingle. From homemade pies to scones they are the very best. The in house baker is magnificent. And, I personally find this important for I am a coffee snob. I have reviewed other places in Dingle regarding coffee and they were good. But, never had coffee in The Strand until this visit. I could kick myself! One couldn't ask for a better cup of coffee. When I asked the lady what she did, she smiled and told me. Like I said, I'm a snob when it comes to coffee so I will not reveal her secret. Suggest you find out for yourself. The staff in both departments are overy friendly and helpful. No matter how busy the store is, they are quick to stop and help so you can get that particular item you are looking for or that special dessert your diet can't resist. So, for a complete shopping experience, The Strand is the place to go. Browse the store and relax in the cafe. You earned it!

Standun Oughterard

A small family-run department store on the main street of Oughterard village, stocking a variety of menswear, ladies fashion, giftware and jewellery.

Reviewed By Steve-in-PV-47 - Pleasant Valley, United States

My wife and I were looking for Irish made gifts for our family and stopped in at Standun’s Oughterard store. We found Aran sweaters for our two younger grandchildren but my wife wanted to get our daughter’s OK. Siobhan suggested we take pix and e-mail them to our daughter while she would hold them aside for us. The next day when we stopped in to say we wanted the two, my wife mentioned to Shiela that we were trying to find sweaters for our son and son-in-law. Shiela showed us some but the ones that appealed to us were not in the sizes we needed. No problem, Shiela ordered them up from the home store so we could see them next day. At the same time, a poncho caught my wife’s eye - perfect for daughter and granddaughter, and she looked good in one, too. Olivia and Shiela checked and found the colors we wanted were available again at the home store, and they ordered them so they were there the next day for our inspection. Final count, Aran sweaters for son, son-in-law, older and younger grandsons, and younger daughter; Aran knit ponchos for wife, daughter and daughter-in-law. What a wonderful store and what a fantastic group of sales ladies. Siobhan, Shiela and Olivia made the whole shopping experience a genuine pleasure. And when we got home, our older granddaughter (for whom we had gotten a bodhram because she is musical) snuggled into her mother’s poncho, so we called over and Shiela is shipping another poncho to us for her for Christmas. This is one fabulous store.
