We really enjoyed this virtual live experience all together. And even-though we decided to "only" watch, due to the time difference (after dinner for us), we had a great time learning more about how to properly cook Empanadas. Thanks again to Camila for making it very interesting, "tasteful"and fun and giving us the chance to discover the world of Empanadas and also sharing insights about Argentina with us.

Our guide was very good. He has tons of information and fun facts on the city. Tour was very manageable from a walking perspective. One stop at the 2nd horse statue park was too long. While the guide provided great info on various local laws. The stop was too long to stand there. The biggest challenge was we had a big group and he really need a nuke with a speaker box. He did his best to talk to the group but it was a bit difficult but not imposible to hear well. Other than that he did a great job. I was disappointed though in some of those in the group .. after a 2 hour tour they gave such small tips ... if you are visiting URUGUAY from North America you are not hurting for money. The tour was free so make sure you tip your guide accordingly. Especially when the cruise ships were charging US$80 per person for the same tour!!! Give and you will receive !

My passion for sharing stories and the history of my city will make this tour unique for you. I will take you to places off the beaten track and you'll see everything from the point of view of a local, and not from a commercial one. Also, the tour is fully customizable, you can tell me your interests and I will tailor it to meet your likings, adding more places or skipping the ones you're not interested in. Starting earlier or later, whatever you may need, I'll make everything to make you feel home and never forget this beautiful city. Everything from a modern brand new European car with panoramic roof, which depending on number of people can be a Peugeot or a BMW. It's the most comprehensive private tour you will find! Forget about having to wait for other guests, this one is made only for you!

Inclusions: Air-conditioned vehicle, Private transportation, WiFi on board, Snacks, Bottled water

A birding tour during your stay in Colonia can be a great chance to experience and learn about the more natural aspect of the city, especially if you´ve already been to the more typical historical sites. Colonia is a highly touristic city, but ecotourism is not exploited in the least. To date there are no other local operators which provide ecotourism services. Colonia Birding offers nature tours to any nature enthusiasts who would like to get to know our rich biodiversity. At the same time, this would provide income to local communities, thus promoting conservation and awareness of natural areas and species, something much needed. Furthermore, your guide is a professional biologist and ornithologist with ample field experience. He´s worked in diverse research projects accross Uruguay, where he's learned much during long field hours, not only about birds but also the natural life of Uruguay in general. He is bilingüal in spanish and english, and sometimes ventures into portuguese.

Inclusions: Small snacks of typical local food are included, Bottled water, The typical Mate is included, you will learn how to prepare it and share it during one of our snack stops.

Exclusions: Private transportation, Tour participants are strongly recommended to bring their own binoculars.

Visiting Uruguay for a conference, I was very happy to find Colonia birding because the conference left me little time to explore on my own. I joined a tour of ca. 12, of whom I was the only one with an ornithology background. Rafa did a wonderful job serving us all, explaining introductory birding skills alternating with tips for identifying rarities. He also emphasized natural history context, not just twitching, and told us a lot about conservation and culture in Uruguay, interspersed with a demonstration of Mate tea and home-baked sweets. Rafa is caring, attentive, and a native speaker of both English and Spanish. Because he took such good care of all of us, I believe everyone was enriched. I personally came out with a good idea of the local bird community, better knowledge of behaviour and ecology, and of course several species that were new to me. After the excursion Rafa sent a detailed list to all and shared his list with me on ebird. A great experience and wonderful day out.

Alberto made it possible for me to study Candombe drumming during my week in Montevideo. He was able to schedule a lesson with master drummer Alvaro Calas, for the very next morning after I emailed him. Communication with Alberto was convenient; he met me at the bus stop and walked me to Mundo Afro. He attended the first lesson. The lesson was fantastic, so I decided to take several more drumming lessons with Alvaro during my week. Alberto let me book these independently with Alvaro, since I could understand and communicate in Spanish. These lessons were unforgettable, and I hope to study more with Alvaro in the future.
