Totnes (/ˈtɒtnɪs/ or /tɒtˈnɛs/) is a market town and civil parish at the head of the estuary of the River Dart in Devon, England within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is about 22 miles (35 km) south-west of Exeter and is the administrative centre of the South Hams District Council.

Staying nearby, we stumbled upon this lovely 13th century pub. Sunday lunch was absolutely fantastic. Very nice local beef, with perfectly cooked veg, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds, all topped off with some of the tastiest gravy we’ve had. A lovely collection of parsnip crisps lifted these lunches above your everyday Sunday lunch. Vegetarian, vegan options were also available on the menu. Staff were very friendly, easy going and attentive to our group. Only minor let down is the toilets, but these are just about to be fully refurbished. Can’t recommend enough.

We were staying locally for the week, and decided to try this place as a result of the pre-lockdown reviews. Well, I can say that we were so pleased that we did!! We must've passed this place hundreds of times during holidays in the area 15-20 years ago, but for some reason never went in. Inside it's a cosy traditional country pub, and the menu offering is very extensive. I opted for the Pork Belly, and my wife had the Cajun Chicken, and both were sublime. We agreed that this was probably the best meal we had all week. Portion sizings were generous, the staff accomodated my requests to pick and mix additional items from the specials board, and the service was excellent. The young waitress actually came from London too, having now settled in Totnes, and she was delightful. We would absolutely recommend the Pig & Whistle!

Stopped off on our way to Totnes and spent a relaxed hour here out on the benches. Affable crowd. We had two large but different IPAs and would have stayed for a vegetarian burger lunch from The Big Kebabski food stand. We will be back.

Under New Management since November 2013! A quintessential 17th Century Inn, located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, at the bottom of a steep valley next to Bow Creek and bridge. The Inn has been used as a smithy, a brew house, petrol station, a prison and a haunt for the feared press gangs. The area was recorded in the doomsday book. Built in the 17th-century, Waterman's Arms overlooks tinkling Bow Creek, near Tuckenhay. We have fifteen beautiful, well appointed en-suite rooms with large bathrooms and powerful showers in the Annexe and spacious powerful shower rooms in the Inn. Direct dial telephones and free Wi-Fi equipped throughout. With riverside sitting across from the Inn, The Waterman's is the ideal place for a relaxing drink or a delicious meal by the river. We also have newly refurbished sitting to the side of the Inn on the patio. We have two separate dining rooms, on three different levels, seating no more than 35 people in each, they have been recently updated and are now bright, airy and as modern as a 17th century inn can be!

We had the most delicious meal here on our walk and would highly recommend! Home made grub and the loveliest landlord this side of Dublin!

Great place to chill and relax - a little time away from it all. Great cafe for a visit after you have painted a pot or two! It's a tad pricey especially when everyone wants to do an extra piece but it's worth a visit and it isn't something that you do every day. You'll love it - great help from the staff in the painting area and amazing cakes - some dairy and gluten free too, so all good!
