Engine Shed

The Engine Shed is closed for now. We’re working hard to gradually reopen the places you love while making sure the experience is safe for everyone. The Engine Shed is Scotland’s dedicated building conservation centre, based in Stirling. Run by Historic Environment Scotland, it serves as a central hub for building and conservation professionals and the general public. Our historic built environment is a finite and unique resource, yet its care calls for conservation skills that are in short supply. This new learning and visitor resource will help to encourage a greater understanding of traditional building materials and skills – and inspire future generations to continue to care for Scotland’s built heritage.

This is certainly a very different type of exhibition dealing with architecture through the ages ,with a large map of Scotland and an ipad which you point at various points and up comes the architecture and buildings of the area (very state of the art ) There is 3D printing which children can draw forms and the printer will manufacture them There is hans on stuff for children and an auditorium showing a film on laser printing for historical building . A small café as well and the best bit it is entirely free with friendly and enthusiastic staff
