El Tajo de Ronda

Absolutely unbelievable! Dramatic cliffs and a 120m deep gorge that carries "Río Guadalevin" through its center! The canyon splits the city in two: "La Ciudad" (the Old Town) and "El Mercadillo" (the New Town) - and connecting both "towns", awesome "Puente Nuevo". From the many existing "miradores", unforgettable views and fond memories to take home. You cannot dare to miss it! Enjoy!

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe

Reviewed By O4063DJbenjaminh - Southport, United Kingdom

To get to Gaztelugatxe we drove up a steep winding road away from the town of Bakio where surfers were testing their grit and showing off their skills on towering formidable waves which crash on to the golden sand. At the top of the inclined road there is a large car park where you start you walk back through time. After reaching the starting arch you meander and descend down twisting pathways were you fight the urge to run as your feet carry you away. There are stunning views of the hermitage as your path winds down the hill. At the bottom you come across a bridge and cobbled steps that sweep up towards the mount that makes you feel like you are travelling back through time. The waves crash and smash against the ancient stones and bring a serene feel after a cautious descent. After taking in the beautiful views, start your ascent of the 241 steps to the summit where a real treat greets you. There you will find stunning panoramic views over the bay of Biscay and make sure to ring the bell three times on the restored chapel and make a wish. Make sure you take a rest to soak in the atmosphere as the walk back is arduous and will take your breath away.

Montana de Montserrat

Reviewed By maureen5 - Franklin, United States

Visited for the day from Begur (on the eastern coast of Spain). It was about a 90 minute drive via the freeways. It is a very beautiful and historic site - well worth the visit- the Basilica was my favorite - along with the spectacular views from up top. It surprised me that hardly anyone talked driving their own car up the mountain - there are two fairly good sized lots near the top and you don't have to take the train. This is a good way to see it also if you have mobility issues. The museum and church can be visited by climbing no more than 2 flights of stairs - and both were very interesting - with the added touch of hearing the wonderful boys' choir at 1 pm in the church. The museum was top notch - many styles - with religious works representing perhaps 1/3 of the art there. The cafeteria supplied hot and cold lunches (cafeteria style) - and even though there were many visitors, finding a table was easy (we visited on Mon.Nov. 25th, 2019).

Timanfaya National Park

An awe-inspiring stretch of volcanic wasteland: a desolate and bleak monument to the power of Mother Nature.

Reviewed By RicardoBowie - Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Timanfaya National Park is the most popular attraction on Lanzarote and for good reasons. A beautiful, wild and rugged landscape that has lava fields, volcanic activities and craters that can be scaled by hikers and walkers who are prepared to go a little further than the the bus tour. An entry fee to the park and the 'official gate' will get you a bus tour (approximately 45 mins) or you can book in advance for a guided walk. Both these methods suit most people. That said, if you want to walk without a guide a good place would be parking at Caldera Blanco and walking into the lava fields from there. Totally free. This can take you to several points in the park. I climbed Caldera Blanco. The parking area is on 'maps'. You can also park in the village of Tianjo. My route took about 3 and a half hours. Circumnavigate top of caldera then back.

This beach is by Costa del Silencio, next to Montaña Amarilla point, on the coast of the nature area of the same name. It is a stony beach used by nudists. Access is from Ten-Bel or the neighbouring complexes, after the Marino and Amarilla Bay apartments.

The rock formations are wonderful to look at, there are rock pools, the sea is refreshing and the chiringuito cafe is wonderful - coffee and mojitos ???? We climbed mount amarilla to eat our picnic at the top. Fab day out. ????

Caldera de Bandama

Reviewed By Roadboy - London, United Kingdom

A highlight of our stay in Gran Canaria (where much of the landscape closer to the coast is, to be honest, ugly and ravaged); the 3.5km walk worked very well going clockwise, so ignore the sign to the Caldera itself (see warning in previous review) and follow the road toward Pico Bandama. Great views, and good exercise on the ups and downs. Important WARNING if coming by hourly bus 311 from Las Palmas: we (and a dozen or so other tourists) should have ignored the driver mischievously calling out 'Bandama'; unfortunately, we all got out at the village of Bandama, rather than the Caldera, and had 2km of road walk uphill to get to the start of the ridge walk. I suspect the local passengers on board have a good laugh about tourists' stupidity once the bus carries on to the Caldera without us.
