Bijouterie Essada Silversmith

We thoroughly enjoyed our time seeing how the filagree jewelry is made and looking at the beautiful selection of pieces. I purchased a lovely ring that I will treasure even more from having met the artisan who made it! I did not know about mentioning Trip Advisor when I made my purchase but I was able to get the price down a little (although not as much in other shops). I feel it was still an excellent value.

Rock Carvings Nkob Tazzarine

The rock engravings Ait Ouaazik are among the best known of southern Morocco. They are located 70km drive north of Zagora (current region of Souss-Massa-Daraa). The village is located in an oasis in the Draa Valley near Nkob. ) . At that time the area was a Aït Ouaazik steppe. The drawings represent mainly hunting scenes and geometric figures. The animals represented are elephants, giraffes, ostriches, buffalo and antelope. The drawings sometimes show hunting scenes. The geometric figures are spirals, concentric arcs and circles. Several techniques are used to etch the rock of soft sandstone: - Staking: picket rock by giving it a regular succession of shocks, for an alignment points. - Polishing: trace an outline where a more or less deep in the slab continuous line by polishing sandstone rock. - The tazinien style: it is a particular aspect of polishing, or a few organs of animals represented are exaggerated length (legs, horns ...) without lacking artistic touch.

To come and see rock carvings of Ait ouaazik, one don't need to rely on a accompanist any more, because the road is provided with signs from N12 to the site ,and as to the history or the explinations of engravings ,I advise you to rely on the garde (the men who looks after them) for that because he searched a bit about it and has got informations from reliable sources.

Along the way to Erg Chegaga and we stoped by Tamgroute. It is used to be an old library and saw the manufacturing of pottery. The guide was very informative, we feel not rush to buy. Well recommended.

Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou

Every North African town has a kasbah, a traditional administrative building made from mud and straw. This one, nestled against the High Atlas Mountains, is among the most impressive of its kind.

Reviewed By sparklesandshoes - London, United Kingdom

In modern days, it indefinitely quite out of the way – with the closest town of Ourzazate 25 miles away but I learned during our hike to the top of the Kasbah that it used to be on the main caravan route between Marrakesh and the Sahara Dessert which makes more sense. Speaking of hike, I was told we were visiting a town which is why I wore a pretty maxi dress, not really the right clothes for this type of visit – which included a trek across a stream, a dusty climb, and a ladder – so don’t let the pictures fool you. When we visited in early October the Ounila River, which separates the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou from the small city where most residents now live, was running low so we were able to cross it by simply walking across sand bags locals had placed in the flow. Once inside the gates we made our way through narrow alleys and passed crowded houses on our way to the top, surrounded by clay brick the whole time. And even though I am not a Game of Thrones fan, someone had shown me a few of the famous scenes that were filmed there so I made sure to get photos with them. As you scroll you may also recognise the backdrop from dozens of other movies, notably Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy, Prince of Persia, and Kingdom of Heaven.

I've never been somewhere quite like this before. We had it to ourselves for quite a long time (just us and the taxi driver we had hired for the day). The outside is falling apart but the mosaics inside looked in great condition and were some of the best I've ever seen. Great views from the top too.

We visited several different Kasbahs in Morocco. This was the largest and most interesting, e.g. many different spaces/rooms, five towers, one of the earliest with a toilet for women, etc). Fascinating scenery around and a very passionate and extremely knowledgable local guide.
