Things to do in San Juan, Puerto Rico: The Best Private Tours

November 12, 2021 Nicolette Lion

The festive city of San Juan is the perfect place to experience true Puerto Rican culture. Get to know its roots by exploring the vibrant neighborhood of El Viejo San Juan (Old San Juan), which consists mostly of Spanish colonial buildings. Flesh out your self-guided history lesson with a visit to El Castillo San Felipe del Morro, a 16th century citadel that’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then reward yourself with a cooling dip at Luquillo or Carolina Beach, then a tasty tour of the Bacardi rum plant.

This tour offers a great opportunity to learn about the Native Taino culture and visit Puerto Rico’s inland beauty. We had a wonderful guide in Javier. As an Anthropologist/archeologists, Javier was able to show us some of wonders of the Taino people. This tour also took us through wonderful terrain. The vegetation has grown back after the Hurricane in 2017. We had a great time with Javier. The cultural sites were eye opening on the history of the native people. It was well worth the time and money!!!

Amazing private tour with very fun and knowledgeable guides. I went on this tour all by myself, having no idea that it was a private tour and I had a blast. Cueva del Indio is not only full of fascinating culture and history but surrounded by gorgeous ocean views. And Cueva Ventana (which you will go with a dedicated guide and group) is amazing as well! Definitely an amazing company to book through considering the very reasonable price for a private tour. And the guides were so knowledgeable and a lot of fun to talk to! Highly recommend!

Experience San Juan the best possible way...through a private tour. Focus on your main interest. Discover the untold secrets of San Juan. Get to know the forts, churches, plazas, cafes, museums, and local flora/fauna. A typical tour would start in "Plaza Colon" (our meeting point). We get an overview of the layout of the city, and an introduction to the history of Puerto Rico (and Viejo San Juan). We walk though "Calle San Francisco". We stop at the "San Francisco Chapel" (if open), "Plaza de la Barandilla", "Plaza de Armas", "Calle Cristo" and the vicinity of El Morro Fort. We will see (from the outside) places like The City Hall, the State Department, La Fortaleza (Governor's Mansion), Christ Chapel, El Convento Hotel, San Jose Square, San Jose Church, Plaza del Quinto Centenario, El Morro Fort, The San Juan Gate and the San Juan Cathedral. Feel like a local and walk at your own pace, taking breaks when you want.

Fantastic tour, a private experience with an extremely knowedgable tour guide. We were the only people at the waterfalls (granted, it's still COVID) and had a few hours to enjoy swimming and connecting with nature. The hot springs were also enjoyable. Thanks for a great time>
