Bispevatnet

Popular tour from the top of the Trollstigen road and up to Bispevatnet lake. The tour starts at 747 meters above sea level and has a total elevation of 290 meters. Tour description: Park just after the Trollstigen plateau (at the bridge over the river or just after the bridge). Follow the road 30 m uphill and cross the road. The start of the trail is marked with a red T. The trail is cairned, but in the beginning, many tourists has made a lot of them, so it can be a bit confusing. From the Bispevatnet lake, it is possible to continue further into the right side of the lake, to the pass between the Bispen and Kongen mountains.

Very nice trip to one of the most beautiful lookout points in Norway. Great view from the very beginning and the hike goes almost directly over the forest. The tour is in mixed terrain, and you will get proper high mountain feeling the last part of the hike. From Holmemstranda, RV64, you drive the toll road to Nysetra (NOK 60, -), up to the parking area (400 m.a.s). This place is normally the last opportunity to fill up your water bottles. The tour starts right from the cabins on Nysetra. A little heavy start and it can be a bit wet throughout the forest. Nice trail then follows a forested ridge to the right of the marsh, slaughtering up to cairns on Teln. From here starts the ascent to the first peak, with cairned path through the boulder field. Follow the left edge of the scree slope upwards, up to the edge where you have excellent view down to Herjevatnet Lake. After the first cairn on the top, there is a nice flat stage before the last piece that follows a sharp ridge to the summit. On top there is a small cottage where you can seek shelter if the weather is bad.

Romsdalseggen was a fantastic and rewarding hike with spectacular views. What sets Romsdalseggen apart from other hikes is that you get a fantastic view throughout most of the hike since you walk on the ridgeline for quite a long time. I would definitely reccommend this hike since it gives quite a unique experince with having to climb some of the steepest parts and also the views are the best i've seen in Norway. It is, however, worth it to note that for those who are not up to doing the whole hike it is also possible to climb the first 3-4 km where you get a fantastic view and return after to the parking in Vinjedalen. It is also possible to do the opposite - hike the path leading to Rampestreken and continue on but note that it is a much steeper path. The weather conditions should be considered. An overall extremely rewarding hike but bear in mind that it is a challenging one (ca 7-8 h if you stop often for pictures as we did) with a very steep descend which can cause your legs to tremble. The descend felt quite long too.

Klovstien Path

Klovstien is an old road between Romsdal and Sunnmore, and it was an important path before Trollstigen opened in 1936. The hike starts in Isterdalen and continues up the hillside along Stigfossen. For centuries the local market Romsdalsmartnan on Devold was very important for trade and relations in this area. Tour description: Park at the info sign in Isterdalen, RV63, and follow the marked trail in the woods until the Trollstigen road starts. Further up the trail goes on the side of the Stigfossen waterfall, 150 meters before the Stigfossen bridge, there is a very steep section which is secured with chains. Take care and be aware that it can be slippery on the stones. Follow the car road in some places. Equipment: Good running shoes or mountain boots are recommended for this trip.

9. Smorbotntind

Skorgedalen, 6320 Norway +47 71 22 16 22 [email protected]

One of the classic top skiing tours in Romsdal. Leave the RV 64 road between Isfjorden and afarnes up Skorgedalsvegen (toll road). Large parking lot at the end of the road, by the alpine centre. Follow the track at the end of the parking lot, over the little bridge and keep to the right of Fuglehaugen. Continue up the hill through the woods towards Smorbotn. A little steep before the top. Fantastik view. Down again the normal way to the bottom with great off-piste possibilities. There are several other options where to ski down again depending on snow conditions.
