Dog's Bay Beach

Reviewed By victoriafoody - Victoria, Canada

We discovered this beach at the end of our day driving the Wild Atlantic way. In hindsight, we should have driven straight here and just hanged out at the beach. We arrived here without any beach gear (swim suits, towels etc), but it didn't matter. We were just happy to walk or sit on the gorgeous white sandy beach, play in the crystal clear water and admire the beauty of the landscape. We had only allowed ourselves an hour here, next time we'll make sure that we can spend most of the day to relax at the beach.

Loved this beach. It’s hard not to. We had sun for a few hours and then had light rain and we still stayed on the beach playing ball. It was just gorgeous

Belmullet Tidal Pool

Reviewed By MHealyDrum1 - Cairns, Australia

Belmullet Tidal Pool In Shore Road is a fantastic facility to have in the Erris area. It’s free and can be a fun day out for the whole family. It has a big pool which is 18m in length with a deep end of 2m and shallow end 1.2m & a toddler pool too. There’s water in it all the time so you don’t have to rely on the tides. Lifeguards are on duty during July & August. Portaloo toilets are there during the Summer months. Just 10minutes walk from the town itself. The town has plenty of shops, a bakery and lovely restaurants & hotels. Why not make the most of your trip by staying the night there’s plenty of accommodation to chose from The Talbot, The Western Strands, The Broadhaven Bay, Geraghtys farmhouse pods, Claggan Island self catering pods and plenty of B&Bs to choose from all over the peninsula or for something more unique book a stay on Inishkea Island with Inishkea cottage & boat hire. If staying on the island is not an option there’s plenty of day trips with Belmullet boat charter on their vessel the Kea Josh. If water sports are your thing why not look up Wavesweeper Adventures. David and the team will sort you out with kayaking, SUPs, snorkelling or surfing to name a few. Declan from Tonn Nua surf school has plenty of options to choose from too. There’s also options to kite surf with 360 kitesurfing. Out of the water why not try a 5km walk at Erris Head Loop Walk it has stunning cliff views that will take your breath away & get you some amazing photos too. Or try Cross Loop Walk which can be either a 5km or 10km walk over beach, road & grass. This walk intersects with the Erris Parkrun location. If out for a drive or a long cycle why not take a spin to Blacksod Lighthouse to learn about its history, drive around falmore to see Deirbhle’s twist sculpture trail with stunning views of Achill Island & Blackrock Island. Follow the signs to Deirbhle’s Well & learn about the healing powers the water in the well is said to have. On the way back to Belmullet take a turn to Corclough & follow the road back to Dun Na Mbo Blow Hole for more fantastic views. If you drive on past the blow hole there’s a lovely viewing area of Eagle Island Lighthouse. There really is so much to do and that’s only one side of Erris. For more information on other areas like Rinroe & Portacloy beach, Carrowteige loop walk, Doolough beach & Doohoma Head Follow Discover Erris on social media Facebook & Insta. A visit to Erris will always be a memorable one, no matter what the weather is like there’s always something fun to do or sea or make the most of it ????????
