Oughterard (Irish: Uachtar Ard) is a small town on the banks of the Owenriff River close to the western shore of Lough Corrib in County Galway, Ireland. The population of the town in 2006 was 1,305. Located some 26 km northwest of Galway on the N59 road. Oughterard is the chief angling centre on Lough Corrib, and is also known as the 'Gateway to Connemara' as it is on the border of Connemara.

It was a wonderful trip and Connemara Chauffeurs was great. Made a few other stops on the trip to see other things. Flexibility and Sean was a fabulous tour guide. Cliffs of Moher is a must see destination. Thank you Sean for an excellent experience touring the coast. I highly reccomend!

Well I am like most of the others in recent reviews as I have not yet gone on my trip. I want to emphasize how marvelous Ciara was when I had to cancel and I have now rebooked the 11 day driftwood tour September 7. Would love to hear from anyone else booking that tour. One of the reasons I rebooked was the low deposit as even though did get my deposit back with no trouble last year I was uncomfortable at my age and who knows what’s gonna happen with Covid putting a large deposit down again. Marvelous communication and service and I’m sure my tour will be marvelous and I can write a great review when I have been

With pick up included from your hotel, hop on board as we travel west into the scenic region of Connemara, famed for its wild and rugged land and seascapes. Our first castle visit is to Aughnanure Castle. Built by the O’Flahertys in 1500, this castle is a particularly well-preserved example of an Irish tower house. Next stop in the quaint village of Oughterard for a short coffee break. Weaving our way through scenic Connemara, our next castle stop is Kylemore Abbey, founded by English industrialist Mitchell Henry and now a Benedictine monastery. Spend the next few hours exploring this romantic abbey, its victorian walled gardens and Gothic church. We head to the capital of Connemara, the colourful town of Clifden. En-route (weather permitting) we drive the famous Sky Road. Travel onto to Ballynahinch Castle and take a short break to explore the castle and estate grounds including the walled garden before enjoying some delicious tea & scones before returning to Galway City.
