Nakagawa Bato Hiroshige Museum

Reviewed By petertaylor57 - Auckland Central, New Zealand

Another place where you won't find too many foreign tourists, Nakagawa, or Bato (I never could figure out the correct name) is a small little town with heaps of atmosphere. The Hiroshige Art Museum has many of this famous woodblock artist's works, the detail of which has to be seen to be believed. Even if you aren't into woodblocks, the architecture of the museum is just great. The inside works well with the outside, and vice versa; and just in case you get bored, there are temples from the 15th century out back and scattered around town. Plenty of things to do here as local community centre was offering day courses in things like papermaking, etc. Well worth going off the beaten track for!
