Things to do in Muenster, North Rhine-Westphalia: The Best Outdoor Activities

April 26, 2022 Stefan Strunk

Often overlooked by English-speaking tourists, Muenster is a small university city near the Dutch border. The Altstadt (old town) was rebuilt after WWII to resemble its medieval predecessor, and you'll find most museums and historic attractions are here. For trendy clubs and restaurants, head over to the Hafen ("harbor") district.

Allwetterzoo Munster

Reviewed By travellinrabbit

My second visit to Allwetterzoo on Christmas Day. I enjoyed seeing the new exhibits, new arrivals and everything that had changed since my last visit. It was nice to be there whilst it was so quiet and I even had the chance to speak with the curators and keepers about my favourite animals. I enjoyed the sea lion show a lot. This is such a lovely Zoo with so many nice things to see. The day was cold and rainy but it didn’t matter as there were plenty of opportunities to shelter without missing out on anything. The restaurant was also really good. Very happy to return after two years and looking forward to coming back again in the future!

Allwetterzoo Munster

As a successor to the old zoo in Münster, the all-weather zoo was reopened in 1974. At that time, the zoo architects had the idea to connect all large animal houses with covered paths, the so-called all-weather aisles. This became the name "all weather zoo". With us you can experience especially animals "up close"! For example, in the elephant feeding by visitors. This is unique in Germany in this form and usually takes place twice a day.
