Painted Dog Conservation

Painted Dog Conservation is an organisation that evolved out of pure scientific research being conducted in Hwange National Park in the mid 1990s. It soon became apparent that vast majority of dog deaths outside of Hwange National Park were found to be due to human causes—snares, traffic accidents, shootings—led by a general ignorance and prejudice towards the species. This cemented our core approach to helping painted dogs, which remains the same today: to identify the critical issues and find a way to make a significant and lasting contribution to painted dog conservation, conservation of nature, and the lives of the local community with a special emphasis on the individual.

During a three month trip to southern africa I had the pleasure to visit this place. The staff has been superfriendly and told me a lot of interesting facts about the wild dogs. What a great and important job they do! The small exhibition was free and very informative and well maintained. "Unfortunately" the Mpindo Pack the first time ( I followed their story online) had just been released, so I didnt see them, but got to see two wild dogs who were in recovery. My friends at home also loved the souvenir wild dogs, who were made out of former snares. Thanks to all of you for your effort to safe this species!
