Things to do in Lisbon, Central Portugal: The Best Shopping

February 18, 2022 Venice Greaves

The museums of Lisbon celebrate the rich history and culture of this Portuguese capital city. The Maritime Museum is perfect for kids (and grown-ups!) who adore all things nautical, while the Casa-Museu Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves is a hidden gem of colorful artwork. To fully appreciate the city’s dramatic stone architecture you can take a guided walking tour, or customize your own tour, making sure to visit the Padrao dos Descobrimentos, the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, and the UNESCO World Heritage site the Torre de Belem.

We visit this mall in Mar. 2020 and loved it. Great food court. You’ll need a few hours to explore it all. Well worth the visit. We took Uber from waterfront Lisbon. It was convenient and cost effective.

On our way to the castle, we came across this store, it just draws you in from the lovely window displays. Each piece is made by an artist and they are beautiful and one of a kind. Their tshirts and bags are nice and of good quality. The owner is welcoming and gracious. A great store to check out in Lisbon.

“A Arte da Terra”, located in one of the most beautiful buildings of Lisbon, The old stables with 27 mangers, an original regular stone floor and three domes, are the right place to find the genuine handcrafted Portuguese pieces. Tiles, Portuguese embroideries, ceramic, the iconic Barcelos Roosters, Linnen and wool clothes, paintings, the famous Portuguese soaps and different products made of cork.

This shop almost feels like it's a gallery due to the wonderful way the products are displayed. Products range in price from the very affordable (magnets, key-rings, postcards etc. but much nicer than the ones in the usual tourist shops) to pieces of art that would be a pretty major purchase for most. However, many of the pieces were affordable for a bit of a splurge - if like me you like to pick up original things from countries travelled, for a bit more than your usual tourist trappings then this is the place to go.
