Things to do in Lisbon, Central Portugal: The Best Nightlife

October 28, 2021 Vergie Nakamoto

The museums of Lisbon celebrate the rich history and culture of this Portuguese capital city. The Maritime Museum is perfect for kids (and grown-ups!) who adore all things nautical, while the Casa-Museu Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves is a hidden gem of colorful artwork. To fully appreciate the city’s dramatic stone architecture you can take a guided walking tour, or customize your own tour, making sure to visit the Padrao dos Descobrimentos, the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, and the UNESCO World Heritage site the Torre de Belem.

Ginjinha Sem Rival

I think holidays are all about experiences and Ginjinha Sem Rival falls firmly into this category. Having seen the store featured on Channel 4’s “Travel Man”, we included a visit into our last mornings plan. Being such a small store, there are a couple of tables outside (and currently a covid-aware one-way system in place) so my partner and son could wait outside while I bought two shots with fruit. The drinks were about four euros for two from memory and were a shot glass of perfectly nice cherry liqueur. A nice little cap to the trip.

A Ginjinha

This bar only sells the the sweet cherry liquor popular in Lisbon. The drink is pleasant and there are two choices either with or without fruit. We went with an all I will say be enjoyed the drink but I'm afraid the fruit is extremely bitter.

Ginginha do Carmo

I first tried ginjinha in a chocolate cup in Obidos. It was one of those mouth-watering explosions of deliciousness. Fabulous. My big mistake was I did not buy the bottles of Ginjinha when I had them in hand to take back to the USA. If you bring some back, I'll buy them from you!

Craft beer bar with 15 beers on tap and over 300 different bottles. Serving snacks, wine and various spirits.

A dozen taps and hundreds of different bottles and cans. Both owners are very knowledgeable and helpful. Easily the best craft beer bar in Lisbon. They also have a pretty cool cat that hangs out at the bar.
