This is one of many great beaches along the Japan Sea in Kyoto prefecture. It's famous for sand that makes a squeaking noise when you walk on it, it even got a visit from Caroline Kennedy when she was US Ambassador to Japan. It has a nice campground under the pines right next to the beach and a few shops/stalls that sell food, drinks, beach supplies during the school summer vacation period. The beach is cleaned regularly over the warmer months, in winter you get to see lots of Korean rubbish washed up on the shore.
