Things to do in Kilkenny, Province of Leinster: The Best Shopping

December 24, 2021 Merry Kessler

Kilkenny is over 400 years old, but it sure doesn’t show its age. Yes, it's an awe-inspiring throng of medieval cathedrals, castles, abbeys and other massive stone buildings, but Kilkenny loves to party. An endless stream of arts festivals celebrating theater, comedy, bluegrass and dance is constantly pumping the city with new life, toe-tapping energy and international flavor.

Kilkenny Crystal

Founded in 1969 by Patrick Clancy Kilkenny Crystal is Ireland's oldest Family-owned Crystal Studio Workshop. Our use of traditional techniques means that our crystal is likened to antique quality. Each piece is deeply cut by hand and then polished with care to retain a fine finish. We create many original designs and unusual pieces and due to the limited number of pieces produced each year many items become valuable collectors items. Our product range and full history of Kilkenny Crystal can be found on our web site.

We were recently in Kilkenny and I saw a gorgeous vase in a shop window. It looked heavy and I didn't want to carry it home. My husband contacted Kilkenny Crystal and had it shipped in time for Christmas. It is the most beautiful vase I own!! My husband said that the owner was lovely to deal with, I would definitely recommend purchasing this crystal artwork!

Thanks to all at jerpoint glass for opening up especially on Sunday for an amusing afternoon. We watched the master at work who produced a beautiful vase and then we got to blow some glass ourselves with various degrees of success! Good fun. Their shop shows the incredible talent the whole family have from wood turning to craft work. Really interesting place and fantastic to see such small Irish company doing so well.

Fantastic tour of the mills with an excellent narrative from Miriam Cushen as to history and prospects for this, very traditional family business - well worth the visit and the town if Graignemanagh is quaint, traditional and worth a few hours and a lunch.

Loved our time in Kilkenny, and just loved this beautiful shop full of gorgeous pottery! The studio and work area are fun to see, and I loved all of the drying work getting ready for the next step. All of my purchases were well wrapped and all made it unscathed to the US! Couldn't be happier with my purchases!
