We did the 360 degree crater rim hike in foggy and stormy weather. Pretty narrow path at times, views of the caldeira and the island are unbelievable. The 8 km hike can easily be done in 2 hours. Our family liked it a lot - and next time we want to descend into the crater!

There are several public beaches on Faial Island and all are beautiful. Since the weather is rather mild there are plenty of days to visit the beach and swim or relax on the sand.

Open to the public since 1986, Faial Botanic Garden consists of an altitude nucleus, in Pedro Miguel parish, and a central nucleus, in the parish of Flamengos, that includes the Azores Seed Bank. Its mission relates to the conservation and study of the Azores' natural flora, the promotion of scientific knowledge and environmental awareness. Turismo de Portugal distinguished the Botanic Garden, in 2011, with an honourable mention in the award "Revitalization of Public Project”. In August 2015, the "Botanic Garden Conservation International" (BGCI) selected the Azores Seed Bank as a study case on the conservation of rare seeds under the "Global Seed Conservation Challenge". The extension of the Botanic Garden opened in June of 2019 and includes the Azores Orchidarium, where it is possible to explore a magnificent orchid collection and its interpretative exhibition, with several facts and curiosities about this extraordinary plant family.

The Live Fish Station - Porto Pim Aquarium includes a central tank and two other sets of tanks, with the most common coastal species of the Azores, an exhibition on the Azores Marine Park and a film about the deep sea of the continental shelf contiguous to the archipelago. The Aquarium is housed in a building full of history, since the cod dry through the first whale oil extraction station. Promoting knowledge about the Azorean's sea biodiversity, along with environmental awareness and recovery of sensitive marine animals, are the main tasks that the Faial Nature Park carries out on this unit.
