Mikurigaike Pond

Mikurigaike Pond is a volcanic lake in Murodo that looks like a symbol of Tateyama. The circumference of the pond is 631m and there is a walking path, so you can walk in about an hour. You may see Raicho bird which is Japan Natural Monument near the pond. It is completely covered with snow from April to June.

One of the stops on the Alpine railway. We did a day trip from Toyama. To get here it is via train, cable-way and bus. Note it is not open during winter.

Tojimbo Cliff

This is a world wonder and I am surprised that the tour buses have not found their way here. This place is probably Japan’s best kept secret for the locals to enjoy and not open to too much foreign tourists. If you get a chance, do come for a day trip and enjoy the Sea of Japan, the beautiful cliffs, and the sea breeze. The picture below speaks wonders of this place.

Amaharashi Coast

Reviewed By NigelG407 - Singapore, Singapore

Absolutely impressive coast line between Takaoka and Himi. Can be observed from the train or explored on foot by alighting at one of the stations. The journey by train does not last so long adjacent to the sea, but it’s certainly worth a ride. Remember the windows of the train carriage open upwards completely if you want to take photos. Makes for a nice half day excursion. Himi at the end of the train ride is generally uninteresting.
