Jenny Lind Inn

Reviewed By LindyLouReading - Reading, United Kingdom

We booked the Jenny Lind for our Golden Wedding Anniversary during the Pandemic having been there during the summer with a group of friends and loved it. I told Sarah, the manager, it was a special occasion as we had intended either going abroad or at least celebrating with family and friends but alas this wasn't to be. Imagine our surprise and delight therefore when, on arrival, my bag was carried up to our room where we found our bed and room decorated with flowers, candles, petals and glitter with prosecco and glasses to celebrate. Our table in the bar later in the evening was also decorated. It made it so special for which we are so grateful. Hastings is a lovely town and we had a lovely time enjoying the local eateries including Huss and Chips from Old Time Fryer, one of the many fish restaurants, a fantastic Indian meal at Ocean Spice and probably one of the best hamburgers I've ever had from the Two Bulls Steakhouse. Hastings has some lovely walks and we both felt another trip after lockdown is a definite date. There are only 5 rooms at the Jenny Lind, but all have en suites. We had a double room with full bath with shower. There is a small fridge, hairdryer, coffee/tea making facilities with milk provided and a really comfy double bed. We opted for room only but breakfast can be included, provided by the restaurant opposite. For the 3 nights we were there, there was plenty of cupboards/wardrobe space for our clothes. All in all I would definitely recommend the Jenny Lind.

The Marina Fountain

Reviewed By MikeLondonSE - London, United Kingdom

2/8/20 We three middle aged London guys were escaping London for a few days, staying at my brother’s flat in StL whilst he was in Germany. A local friend recommended this local eatery for a Sunday Lunch with good fish and veggie options, good value compared to central St Leonard’s or Hastings and it also had a nice garden to eat in. We arrived at about 14:15 to find a dark pub with a few people inside drinking. We were greeted by the barman, we explained we wanted to dine and he told to go straight to the garden where we would be served. We were told that as we had no booking we would need to eat in one of the sheds as the garden was fully booked. As Covid was still around (albeit low incidence in the area) there was no eating inside. The weather was nice so we wanted to stay outside anyway. We went to the back and outside to find four brightly covered empty sheds with tables in them, against the cliff and a number of garden tables with benches and parasols. We settled down and a waitress dropped a menu off. We chose some fish dishes as we are pescatarians and very near the sea (but no view unfortunately). I chose a paupiette, my friends the sardines and our friend another paupiette. We also chose a hummus side dish and some chunky chips. The waitress came and took our orders, including a Guinness, Newcastle Brown and a rose wine. The food came in good time by 15:40 and the paupiettes were wrapped in brown baking paper, opening them up the fish look well backed and appetising, it turned out to be very hot, succulent, easy to debone and tasty, with a strong herby flavour. My friend enjoyed his sardines and we all liked the tasty chips and hummus too. The condiments were in sachets, as is the Covid custom now, but were high quality. We did not want any deserts so we ordered the bill which we took to the bar to pay as we left. It was a reasonable £46.40 for the food and £15.53 for the drinks. On thanking the waitress on the quality of the paupiette she said it was a new addition to the menu that day. We left sated and happy, walking back to St Leonard’s central along the seafront, noting a Banksy painting on the beach wall along the way. I’m not too sure why it is not characterised as a restaurant but as a night life venue. Maybe it is but we certainly went for the food and were not disappointed!

The Fountain, Hastings

Reviewed By Wheatley4 - Bradford, United Kingdom

We recently holidayed in Hastings and stayed in a lovely house above the new town ..... but which was quite a walk to get to the sea front or town centre. On our first day we discovered The Fountain halfway on our long walk, a really genuine drinking house with good beer, good wine and great staff. Needless to say we ended up having a stop off here several times over our two week stay!! The place is a proper pub, and is decorated with fascinatingly weird wall art and paintings. It works to give it a great olde worlde feel with a contemporary twist. The beer was good and well looked after. Coming from Yorkshire we can be more than critical over Southern pints - my hubby and dad tested it more than a number of times and were more than happy to indulge in few more!! The staff are really friendly and chatty, and make you feel at home every visit. Stop off for a beer when in Hastings - well worth it for a good pint.

The Carlisle

We are a happy rock venue. We provide live entertainment every weekend and our prices are nothing if not competitive!

Reviewed By stephend185 - Bexhill-on-Sea, United Kingdom

Went here for their first live music performance since Covid lockdown. I didn't quite know what to expect, but wasn't disappointed. Great to see everyone seated, socially distanced in bubbles, using a track and trace system & staff taking it seriously making sure guidelines were adhered to (I really don't envy their job). The staff and band have really set a standard and shown that indoor music and venues can survive in these uncertain times. Big shout out to a staff member (manager possibly?) called "Widget" who was very welcoming and attentive, and certainly on his toes. He's a credit to the pub working hard on both sides of the bar. He also makes some mean cocktails and shots, great mohawk btw The Carlisle is a great Biker & Rock pub, and although it may seem a little intimidating, you'll soon see just what a great, welcoming place this is, treating new customers and regulars with the same welcoming influence (thanks again Widget) I will certainly come back.

A lovely traditional pub in All Saints Street in the heart of Hastings historic Old Town. A beautiful, quirky, interior with lots of interesting artifacts on the walls to keep you amused. Very friendly staff and a good selection of drinks are available in this Free House. Compared to many pubs in Hastings drinks are slightly cheaper. Especially great if you want a quieter venue away from the hustle and bustle of the seafront public houses.
