Things to do in Hanga Roa, Easter Island: The Best Outdoor Activities

November 12, 2021 Margarita Chappel

The epic Moai stone statues that stand guard over Easter Island are among the main attractions of this remote and lonely part of the world. Hanga Roa is Easter Island’s commercial hub and its only village. The airport is here, as are several restaurants, guest houses and hotels. Use it as a base for island adventures, which may include trekking, exploring white sand beaches, snorkeling, diving, visiting archaeological sites or even your own private spiritual journey.

Adventure Terevaka

This little island has something magic hidden not only in the giant statues that surround it, but also in its sunsets, starry nights and in the moonlight over the sea in a quiet night. We specialize in beginner level horseback riding with two options, to plant a tree or to watch the sunset from the highest point of Rapa Nui, the Terevaka. Tumu Ora. We ride up during the morning to the top of Terevaka to see the island and the ocean in 360 °. But enjoying the view is not the only thing. If you want to leave a positive mark on Rapa Nui this is your route. Plant a tree in Terevaka and follow its growth with us. Sunset Terevaka. We ride up to see the sunset from the highest point of the island. It takes us about 50min to reach the top where we expect the sunset. Then we comeback down with the first stars.

Playa Ovahe

Reviewed By fsimon72 - Santiago, Chile

Getting there requires going through a path not suitable for seniors but it’s worth the effort . This is the local answer to Anakena , which is much more touristic . Some 100 meters from the beach there is a coral reef good for snorkeling
